BHR Ignition + Brad Penn Oil = 25mpg

Was really shocked over the last weekend did a 1200km road trip. On mixed city and highway I was getting 25mpg where as before I had been getting 20mpg.

Difference is:

Before Castrol 10w30 on OEM coils and new plugs.

Now Brad Penn 10w30 on BHR kit with new plugs.

Same tire pressures throughout.

FWIW, the combination of the two provided a noticeable increase in smoothness which makes the drive much more and I mean much more pleasant for myself as well as the passengers.

On mixed city/highway that's really great. Do you think the oil itself has anything to do with it? I've heard some people swear that new oil will increase their mileage at first.

I've seen one guy report 29 mpg here. Best I ever got personally was 26-28 mpg but that was all highway, 65 mph cruise control, no real city driving to speak of.

I actually find I get better mpg on 74mph speed it is worse at a slower speed, maybe it has to do with the atomization of the fuel at various duty percentages.

If someone got 29mpg they had to be doing it on the flatest most desert land of all time. Seeing 500km on one tank I was impressed I can't imagine seeing 600!

I don't remember any details from the guy who got 29 mpg, and, personally, I don't think it matters much since there's a fair margin of error on any one tank. I've never experimented with higher or lower speed, I just go the speed limit to try and avoid any more speeding tickets. But I have heard people argue that higher revs on this motor will produce higher mileage. I don't really believe it, but can't say one way or the other from my experience.

Where did you get the BHR kit and plugs from? How much did they set you back?

Brad Penn oil has high levels of zinc, good for older cars with flat tappets, not sure how this will affect your RX engine.

Brad Penn is excellent for rotary engines.

I highly suggest you read the following to understand the various terms that have been thrown around in an effort to confuse the customers with the newest regulations concerning service grade standards.

ZDDP is actually crucial in rotary engines.

No the mpg difference is the road trip and you are misleading consumers to suggest it was the action of either plugs, oils, or coils.

Like I said, I don't know how it will work in a rotary. I've been using it for years in my 30 year old Porsche and love it. There was a long discussion in the Pelican Parts Porsche forum about oils. Brad Penn was recomended by the vast majority.

How am I misleading people.

I used the combination of products.

I got a mileage improvement which I may note has remained.

Where you see misleading in there I don't understand but if you have issues don't bring them in here this is a discussion of facts that have occurred and enjoy continual occurrence on my vehicle.

I think the oil has very little if any effect. I have been charting my mileage since I bought the car in 1/06 and oil has never produced any noticeable effects on mileage. I've tested with different weights and synthetics and have never seen any significant difference.

The coils could be the key and it is logical to see how they could improve the MPG. Base coils are weak and deteriorate with age. They are also stressed more then in a piston engine. The coils in this kit are very strong and provide a much better spark improving combustion especial as the RPMs climb. This is one upgrade I could see doing down the line.
