Bike Handle > RX8
Courtesy of my neighbors kids. I was pissed but obviously not much to say since **** happens. Luckily, despite the fact that these neighbors are the plague of our cul-de-sac, the kids dad offered to pay for the repair.
Was thinking about asking my Mazda dealership if they had a paint shop they reccomended to match the VR but we'll see on Monday.
Do you guys have any experience with this? Won't have to replace the entire door will I?

Ya it's pretty deep. Don't really know how to describe it since I have very little knowledge about body work. I just hope they'll be able to match everything and make it look normal.

Bondo cracks and is horrid. I dont like the stuff and have seen it crack plenty of times. Would suck if he needs a new door but hes not paying for it is he... Kid shouldnt of fucked up.

The only reason why I was able to keep my sanity today. How do they usually fix these types of things without going half-assed?

From the picture, I cant seem to differentiate it from being paint transfer or an actual deep scratch.
If the scratch is, indeed, that deep. You'll have to repaint the door. Or you can source another VR door from the for sale section. Every once in a while someone will part out an RX8. From what I've heard, VR is a very hard color to match and/or the paint is a bit more expensive than other colors. I don't quite recall if it was one or the other or both.
If it's paint transfer, a professional detailer should be able to remove that for you. Or you could do it yourself with some products. I'm not a professional detailer so I can't really help you with that. You can tell if its paint transfer by running your nail through it. If the surface dips where the "scratch" is. It is a scratch. If it moves upward, it's most likely paint transfer.
Good luck! You may wanna post this in the detailing section.

I know the dad is paying for it but I still hate to hit him with a bill to replace the door. We'll see what Mazda says in the morning.

So I took the car into the collision shop that Mazda uses and they quoted $550. They said they would have to fill in the scratch and match/blend the paint with the rear door and do the 3 coat that VR is. Such a pain in the *** and I don't know why but I almost feel bad hitting my neighbor with such a high bill. I would imagine this price would be pretty standard given the circumstances and I don't really feel like getting a quote from any other unknown shop.

Keep in mind you only notice things when you know where to look as well. A job done well is always noticeable to you. Not always to someone just looking at the car. Look for a classic car body shop. Someone that specializes in old vehicles. Reason being they have to match colors that were lead based. Most of them have a paint guy who only does color matching for cars that older, faded, road worn. The colors on these cars are not the original colors and they have to match lead based paints, with non lead based replacements.

to get an entire door dent in the right rear door that was a 2ft long dent, have the right rear door repainted, the front door repainted, and the back fender repainted, was 510 dollars after tax. you are ******* your neighbor in the *** but hey it was his kids fault.
i think i would feel a little bad if theyve never made a bad impression on you before, unless you live in a really nice neighborhood where you know 500 isnt a ton of money

Got a quote the other day from a guy who does work warranty work for Chevy dealerships, and he's going to do it for $300. Blend, fill, and triple-coat. I feel good about it.
