You need to look at the mirror. You will notice it is ball jointed at the base on the glass, and the base of the body. Both can pivot quite a bit and allow moving the mirror WAY up and out fo the way. Grasp the whole mirror and "pull" it upwards.
Also as recomded, setup your mirrors the right way :D

Sure it takes getting used to, but once you use it for a week, you realize you have a tiny blind spot when the car is immediately to your side, and it really is quite minor.

I don't buy Kool-Aid
I am 5-9 and sit with my seat all the way back and down and my mirrors all the way out but I can see just fine?. I turn my head a lot just to be on the safe side.

The visibility overall sucks in the rx-8. When i took it for a test drive i couldn't see anything but hey i didn't buy the car for that, It looks good! I don't think they had a daily driver in mind when they designed this car.

If you are sitting in your 8 or any vehicle, you should position your seat as you would normally drive the car, then you want to lean over into the middle of the car (like a guido) and adjust the rearview mirror to capture the entire rear windsheild, then readjust your body back to your normal driving position. You should have a view of just the right back half of the car in the rearview mirror now, including the small righthand back window. Also adjust your right outside mirror so it does NOT capture any part of the car in the view. I learned this in a deffensive driving course, I always look over my shoulder, although this method I mentioned has helped me have a much smaller if any blind spot, hope it helps.

There's no blind spot. I noticed that some people lean toward the left, and try to look around the door post. Try leaning to the right, toward the middle of the car, and then look to the left. You can see out the driver's window, the rear side window, and the back window.

Yes, the blind spot sucks in this car. Small, but dangerous.
I just drive twice as fast as everyone else, and I don't have to look behind me - just ahead!
(just kidding - in case my insurance agent reads this!!!)

I tried to adjust my rear-view mirror height and can't really see how you are all doing it. If anyone has photos of the adjustment or a good explanation of how it works I would appreciate it. I tried to move it but don't want to tear my mirror off only to find that the homelink mirror isn't adjustable. Also I noticed a piece of film on the window where the mirror is sitting. Is that going to move as well?

93rd, mine has the homelink too. All I did was grasp the mirrow with both hands (one on either side), and lift it up towards the roof. It should't be forced though so if you're not able to move it, don't break it off.
If you need, I'll bring my video camera with me and film it moving for you.

You the man...
I guess a video would be good if it isn't too much trouble. Thanks. And I hope you can make to the Left meets Right RX-8 meet we are scheduling for next year (look in the lounge for the thread if you haven't seen it yet). I think it would be fun to get a chance to meet you seeing as how we are both sort of out-spoken types.

Okay, filmed it while I was waiting for my son to get out of school (in case you're wondering where this movie was filmed)
This should give you a good idea what is going on:

Perfect! Thank you. I had no idea that it was adjustable that way. I was trying to pull it away from the window. That makes a lot more sense now. Great job Jason. And thanks again for the help.

heh - np.
Before I found out it was adjustable, I was complaining about the mirror - that @#$@# mirror is going to get me killed!
I wonder if it was just mine that was in the lowest position, or if they all come that way.

Sorry man...gotta agree. That's hideous. It looks like your side window just got a pimple.
As for the rest of the posters here, there is NO blindspot. Manual visibility (looking over your shoulder) is hard to do since the corner windows are small, but the side mirrors should be put nearly all the way out wide. There should be overlap between your center rear-view and your side view. In short...only check your side mirrors to see what is literally beside you. Use your rear view to see what's behind and coming up the side.
This style of driving I've found has you using your rear view far more than the normal high internal visibility car. Your side mirrors are a good check to make sure you don't immediately merge into someone/thing, but the rear view is your real awareness mirror to see what's coming. Yes, this requires that you actually pay attention in traffic and plan
