Hey guys this is a stupid question but here goes.
This will be the first winter with my 8 so I wanted to know if using a block heater will be a good idea? Do any of you guys use it? Any second thoughts on it?thanks in advance

I know I have seen guys in Canada that use the type that stick on to the oil pan.

I've seen threads where people in Canada get em, I don't see any negative side of getting one.

Found this in the Similar Threads spot at the bottom here, might help you out.

WHo has actuallly installed an inline block heater or oil pan heater?

Don't get a block heater, oil pan heater is what you want.

I have something like this:
http://www.dieselservices.com/html/e...eater_p148.cfm

It has worked great up to -40 C temps.

As far as I know, you can't install the frost plug type block heater (the normal kind for us, Alaskans and Canadians) for RX-8. I'm in Fairbanks, AK, where we can experience -40F (similar to Calgary). Hmmm, the oil pan heater doesn't do much for us. We have a radiator tube heater + an engine oil pan heater + a transmission heater (same as oil pan heater) + a heater below the battery + onboard trickle charger. All of these are pretty cheap, and available from stores like NAPA. It's relatively easy to install. We have been driving RX-8 all winter long for 4 winters or so, and we had never had a problem even at -40F. Well, in the first winter, I flooded the engine, not the fault of RX-8, I didn't know what I was doing. With decent tires like Nokian Hakka, it is a fun car to drive on snow.
