Drive around under 4k everywhere?

You do realize that bogging down a motor is a lot worse during a "break in period" right?

Not a good way to state your opinion. If someone was not told about it...especially by the dealer, than it's not really her fault. I would think most people would want to find out more about a rotary engine if they are buying one, but if the dealer just says it's more efficient and yadda, yadda yadda than maybe she does not realize all that is entailed with this engine. I have learned a lot about this engine here and in the magazine...outside of that the dealer did not say much to me either. It's a unique engine and I am still not fully sure what is normal for it. When it totally shakes and vibrates my car likes it's going to blow up....now that does not sound normal or part of waiting for it to warm up 100% or breaking it in! Be kind...I know it's hard when you think they should find out more about it! I agree with that.

Break in period info is on page 4-7 of the Owner's manual. Both the manual and my dealer say there is no orthodox break-in period for the 8.

There is a reference to driving under 7000rpm in the first 1000km, but that reference refers to driving <7000rpm for "extended periods of time".

My RX-8 doesn't have any brakes on the motor. However, I did follow the owner's manual guidelines for break-in of my engine, as pointed out by Literatii. I don't know where you get a generic requirement to "keep it under 4K for 1000 miles", because that's not necessary for the RX-8 or any car these days. As Psylence noted, that's probably worse for an engine than a proper break-in procedure would be.

There's quite a few break-in requirements threads already taken place here; maybe do a search for them and see what we've discussed about this before.

Regards,
Gordon
