Question Break-in Period

I have never owned a rotary engine before, what is the break-in period (i.e. 4000 RPM max. for the first 3,000 miles/kilometers)?

rotary abuse or lack there of

I did my college thesis on the Rotary engine. The info I had, (and we're talking in the early 80's) was.

Avoid taking the rpm's above 4000 for the 1st 1000 miles or 1600 km's.

This is also good advise for when the engine is first started, until the time the engine reaches normal operating temp.

This gives the engine a chance to build a microscopic layer of oil on the walls.

If in doubt, I am sure Mazda will provide the answer, once you are a proud owner of an 8.
