Broken exhaust sensor okay? / I love the 8
I got an 06 RX8 in China, recently hit a big rock on the underbell of the car and broke the sensor on the exhaust near the cat sidways. Soon after the check engine light came on and I took it to the dealer to fix. However, the dealer couldn't unscrew the broken sensor to put a new one in. Given it is in china, the deal claims it will take 1-2 months to fix and $$$ as the car is a rare import. I've been driving around with the check engine light on and it drive and performs fine. Any comments on having a broken sensor and check engine light. If there is no biggie then I plan to leave it as is.
Also, I've got a 400HP+ 3rd gen (tune and prepared by a couple of JGTC mechanics and way to scary to drive around daily) and an E46 M3 (just sold to get the 8) and I have to say the 8 is my most perferred car for any situation. It is so so balanced and unique and everyway! rotary engine, doors, carbon driveshaft, proper seating for 4, perfect chassis and torque steer!

Shock and Awe
I think its pretty bad to be driving around with a bad o2 sensor. If your cat goes bad, it could cause a lot of damage and you likely wouldn't know until it was too late since you would already be driving around with a CEL.

Thanks. I would then get it to the dealer asap. Just hope they are competent enough. Just got back in a drive of 2,000 miles across China in a mini van and it felt so good to be in the 8! As some has put it in the "little things" thread. These RXs' got soul...

What if you order the sensor yourself? Some internet dealer would probably ship to China. You can still drive around till it comes in, and then the dealer won't be able to screw you on the price of the part.

Update:
Ordered the O2 sensor for a $170 then the dealer said the connector had been distorted so the old sensor cannot come off. They are thinking of replacing the entire cat section at the expense of US$2,000 or have me drive around with a CEL and broken O2 sensor. I am planning to file a police report on the accident point and see if insurance can cover the cost.. otherwise, have to stay lean on beers this month!
