Broken Rear Window

Just wanted to share my horrible experience.

Not only did my rear window hit a baseball bat, during the night...

The window repair company that my insurance forced me to use, ripped out the rear window without removing the bolts & didn't re-install them, cut the antenna wire & didn't reconnect it. To top the cake, the rear window squeaks ALL THE TIME

Those folks are butchers. Go back and demand that they fix the crap job they did.

By the way, do you live in a state where the insurance company can force you to use a particular repair shop? I only know that here in Cali, you are free to go to any shop that you like - the insurance company can't force you to use their preferred one.

Uhg. I hate insurance companies. You should post their number so we can all call them in our free time and ask how their going to fix it. On the other hand, you’d better not... stupid legal stuff. Google your state’s insurance department and get info on how to file a complaint with them. Tell the insurance company they have one week to restore the window to its original condition or you’ll file a complaint (worked beautifully for me, after over a month they got their **** together within 8 hours of the threat).

Although I still like the idea of hundreds of calls per day asking them when they’re going to fix your window…

Maybe hundreds of letters…? Anyway, I hate insurance companies. Good luck and don’t let them get away with it.

Yall are right, I learned after the glass was installed wrong, I could have gone to anyone.

However the insurance would have only paid what their perferred vendor would have charged.

What is everyone's thoughts on not having full coverage? I was thinking about just going to liability and cancelling the rest. But this might just be my knee jerk reaction.

Sorry for sharing the pain, but everyone's comments is making me feel a little better.

Also, remember if you ever have your rear window replaced, for a fun reason, like new expensive paint job - be there with and make sure the installer tightens the corner bolts before the glue sets.

Shinka-Dono:
I am going to try that tommorrow, since it has been over three weeks.

Cheers.

Most glass companies are just as bad as the insurance companies. I worked for a software house developing software for glass companies and learned a lot about how they operate.

Sorry about your bad luck.

Yeah, definately threaten them with the Texas Department of Insurance first. Should work well.

If anyone asks why you waited, just say you did not know you had any recourse until you spoke to a friend or some such...

btw:

TID complaint form

Hopefully you won't have to use it.

Do you have Progressive by any chance, since that sounds like the crap they pulled on me when I needed to get my hood fixed from a flying rock causing a nasty dent (poor Bella was only three weeks old )? They kept trying to get me to take my car to their preferred shop and I refused, so they kept holding up approving my repair. Then they they didn't want to pay for it. The funny part, the body shop I wanted to use could actually repair aluminum whereas other places I called, just for referrence to confront the insurance people in their BS, all wanted to replace the hood, which would have cost about $2000 more! Progressive told me after I paid my $100 deductible they would only cover up to $200 for the repair (which they claimed it would cost at their shop) and I would have to pay for the rest. I actually did have to file a complaint with the insurance commissioner. I got my hood fixed right away. The total cost of the repair, repainting, recoating with teflon, et cetera, only cost a little under $800. They also preferred that I get an "after market" hood at their shop. I filed a complaint with the insurance commissioner and even though I have since dropped it because my car is fixed and I cancelled them within two days of picking up the car and got a new company, all I wanted was my car fixed back to it's original condition at the body shop of my choice for my $100 deductible only!!! The lady at the insurance commissioner's office said that just to respond to my complaint would cost them approximately $3000 in fees.

Edit: At least in Oregon they can't just arbitrarily decide they will only pay a certain dollar value, especially if it is inadequate for the repair. If the shop can show it is a legitimate and reasonable cost the insurance also has to pay for it instead of saying it would only have cost X dollars somewhere else.

Not Progressive, but Nationwide.

Update:
The glass installer's company came back out yesterday, two of them! It was suppose to be three of them, but the orginal certified installer quit the night before. WTF!
Anyway, the two guys that did show, one had 30 years of experience and the other was very familar with RX8's - thank god! They were very helpful and took their time with removing the old glass, cleaning/prep and re-installation.

So here is the weird part, without the glass installed the noise went away! But as soon as we re-installed the glass the noise came back. I drove around the block with one guy in the trunk and another in the back seat until we found the source of noise.

Turns out, when the baseball bat went thru the window, it dented the package shelf without breaking the speaker grill and cause a weld seam to not be solid, but only with the weight of the glass installed or the glass is reflecting the sound. I found the very slight dent and am trying to decide a path forward now.

Gosh I am tired of my car being torn apart, maybe my friend "Jimmy" can determine a way to fix the noise.
