Mazda is insured against the loss. but the people who may have had cars on order from that shipment will be delayed big time. Too bad........

One more, I guess.

This is interesting news. I hadn't heard it (and I'm a news junky of sorts).

And I certainly wouldn't think to "search" for it.

Demonstrates responsibility on Mazda's part, IMO. Better to be safe than sorry.

In fact, contrast this with BMW, which fixed cars damaged during ocean shipping and sold them as new (as long as the damage was less than 3% of the MSRP of the vehicle, in their estimation).

I remember the BMW thing. IMHO, when the court set aside the original $4 million, BMW got away with murder.

Giving all that money to the single original plaintiff was, of course, silly. But if the world was a fair place, BMW should have been made to find those 983 other victims and divided the four mill among them.

Of course, these days the money would go to lawyers and the 983 would get coupons. But at least BMW would have gotten an economic incentive to not do that kind of thing.

Exclamation

Well, I thought it was news about RX8, not general automobile, so erase this thread if you like.

There was a ship carrying Mazdas that took water and listed severely off the Alaskan coast. Long thread about it a few months back. Look for that to see if you got the name of the ship right. There were RX8s aboard, as well as other Mazdas. Not all the cars were damaged or soaked. IMHO, if the news that Mazda is scrapping them all is new, that's on-topic.

Tragic incident - one of the salvage workers died while they were recovering the ship.
