That, and, many a rotary have died from lack of oil change. Mazda WANTS you to change it every 3000 miles -- they put 5000 because that is what all the competition is reccomending, and..well, 2000 miles less per oil change is bad for marketing/sales, etc..

To get more oil out, jack up each side of the car while the drain plug is out, to tilt the oil out of the coolers

When did Mazda said that they want ya to change oil every 3K miles ? and I thought that my Manual saids every 7.5 K miles ?

Dont get me wrong I change my oil every 1.5-2.5K miles.

Engine oil is something that the more often you change it, the longer your engine (and stuff that needs it to lube) will last. but you also have to count the cost factor. Oil aint cheap especially good ones + good filters.

Back to the OP, does it just smell "hot" or a definite burning smell? My car just turned over 11,000 miles on Monday and it periodically will have a "hot" smell to it, but it does not smell like burning oil specifically. I do know the difference, because back in November I acquired a loose spark plug after an oil change and was leaking all over. I had black exhaust smoke and oily spatters all over under the hood. It definitely had a bad "burning" smell, but it is nothing at all like my "hot" smell I have had ever since I got the car (I've noticed this smell on other RX-8s also, so I don't think it is an indicator of something "wrong" with mine).

Since the recall I go through a little more oil than I used to, although not much. I'm still close to around a quart per 3000 miles. I check mine every week, and usually top off every other week.

I dont seem to be burning any oil at all. I had my oil changed about 2500 miles ago and I checked tonight and still almost full. It seems everyone burnes oil alot more than me. Any thoughts....

There's a pretty wide variation based on how each 8 is driven + all sorts of other factors. You're still burning oil - take a look at your pipes.
