Burnt plastic bag

Hi guys,

I'm a new member here, just got my '04 yellow RX8 MT couple weeks ago, leaving my 2g mitsubishi eclipse behind. Really happy with the performance and such, great car!

Anyway
When I drove few days ago, I could smell something burnt inside the car, my girlfriend says it smells like plastic. So I pulled over and found a huge plastic bag, almost as big as me stuck underneath the car. I pulled it off and saw some parts has hole on it (burnt.) The problem is now, the smell is still there. Is there any good way to remove the smell and probably the burnt plastic, which I think is still stuck underneath my car?

well... aside from letting it burn off... let it cool and take a wire wheel to it... or a razor....

There have been posts on this before. I'd search for them and see what other people did. IIRC they might have just had to wait for it to burn itself off.

+1 to me too.

it sucks, when it happened i was in no position to clean it off right away (or for the next few days)

by the time i got to it, i couldn't get it all off without 'serious' action.

the bits that remained eventually became char.

At least you don't have mice or squirrels in your car. Enjoy your 8.

I found one tucked up almost behind my rad when i was putting on the hymee screens. Glad i saw it otherwise it would have been entombed in there.

Lol!

The problem is, this plastic bag is thicker than your groceries' and about 6 feet long!!! I didn't see it coming though, maybe bad karma because I did laugh on my friend when we went out and drove out with plastic bag attached in front of his grill. He tried to shake it off but we had to exit and stop in order to remove this bag.

When I had my 4G. My car was over heating so I pulled over to see what was going on under the hood.
As soon as I got to the front of the car I see a bag on the front grill and hear the fans on. I pulled the bag off the front where the A/C condenser is. The fans ran for about 5 more min. Keep in mind this was in mid summer and it was about 110+ out. After that the car was good
Ever sence that happen I always look back to see if the bag is still on the road. If not I pull over lol

Use brake cleaner to remove it.

That plastic is my favorite smell next to the tranny fluid and the dead fish smell

The plastic should melt off using carb cleaner or laquor(spelling) thinner and a rag.

Eat Taco Bell in the car. Then you won't notice any other smells.

I had this happen to me when I still had my 8 - it burned off over about a week for me. Then about a day after I stopped noticing the smell, another one got sucked in and melted on. That sucked.
