which to buy 2006 shinka or 2007?

i live in CA. Which one should i get assuming test drive is smooth and all.

2006 shinka with 65k miles, with 4 different previous owners, with "clean" carfax, in OR (out of my state) sale by small dealership (those shaddy used car ones ...lol)

or

2007 sport (base model w/o traction control and sunroof etc) one owner 30k miles, with a "clean" carfax, selling locally sale by owner

both same price. both 6 speed. both w/o factory kit (lip, side skirt etc)

which to buy? im torned.

I'm pretty certain that all Shinkas have the factory appearance kit. If the 2006 doesn't have it, I would definitely go with the 2007. Although, the 2007 may be a better buy anyway, due to half the miles, unless the options that the "Shinka" may have, appeal greatly to you.

Which isn't easy for me to say, since I'm very partial to the Shinkas. (Even the 2006.)

Have links to both? Might help others share a more informed decision. From the sound of it.....the 2007 with 30k would be my pic (unless you absolutely wanted leather).

I'd lean to the one owner car. Every additional owner increases the chances that the car was in some way neglected or abused or maintained improperly.

Mine does not. It is a dealer option.

If I were you, I'll keep the Evo, but you sold it already. Anyway, I pick the lowest mileage one.

Guess the 07 but what do I know?
I drove 120 miles just to see a 06 copper red Shinka....and from a "shady small lot car dealer"
Ya, I ended up buying it on my second trip there.

That was in Sept of 07. Still love my baby and mount, I mean drive, her every time I can.

Paid a bit under $20K and had almost 25k miles. I was the third owner.
Hard to believe that a 06 Shinka had two owners by summer of 07.
Previous owner bought it for $27K, had it for 3 months and traded it in for a Ford pickup. He got $17K for it.
I had it since Sept 07, been to the dragon, to the State meet and the Austin drive in Leakey and have almost 47K miles.

GUYS! guess what!? 2 out of 5 rx8 i test drove, gear grinds when shift! Following is the details:

1) 2004 red (shaddy dealer) with 109k miles with two tone interior. ironically this is the best out of the five. drives smooth and spotless inside n out

2) 2004 Black (bmw dealer) with 60k miles fair condition inside n out. drives not as smooth (steering feels funny and just feels like a used car). almost forgot about this one cuz it was so uneventful...

3) 2006 shinka (the first one i talked about in this thread) yes i had a test drive. Engine came alive with a loud groan, very very clean n nice kit, sounded awesome when drives. smooth. very racy feel! i got hooked BUT gear grinds! from 3rd to 4th! and its too loud for my taste ( my daughters taste...)

4) 2005 shinka dark cherry purple ish color 90k miles. I LOVE THE COLOR!! Drives not as smooth as the 109k one. similar to the bmw dealer one. Mainly wanna test if shinka should behave like a beast like the gray one. nope. this one is quiet. oh and the interior is worst out of the five...leather is teared n stuff... oh yeh the car took awhile to turn, once it started, dark smoke came out from exhaust!

5) 2009 black 40k mile. toyota dealer newest of coz the smoothest! dash is pretty. has the nice moving redline thingy. like the M3s lol. GEAR GRINDS!!! from 4th to 5th!!

soooooo 2 outa 5 grinds. my evo grinded at 40k mile and fixed under warranty or recall or something. i saw it coming cuz it was a common issue.

i wanna ask if this is common for rx8? i actually think rx8s engine are fine but not their gear box! plz prove me wrong!

99% of gear grinding problems are from one of 2 sources:

1) bad drivers damaging syncros

2) motor mounts failing/collapsing

Point #1 isn't something you can predict or defend against.

Point #2 is fairly common due to the heat our engine puts out. There are solutions to this.

1) patially agree, i mis shifted my evo ONCE and thats what it took to cause the gear to grind. it was on the service bulletin, does that mean its a recall?

2) how to prevent/fix?
