To buy or not to buy RX8???

ouch.
just by looking at the exterior you'r have to buy new:
hood
passenger door
passenger suicide door
headlights
front bumper
passenger wheel+Wheel well
Stonetray
corners
appearance side skirt
suicide window
and of course alot of engine parts. But that damage can't be seen.
And from thos epics the drivers' side looks ok from that small pic.
Thats like half the car. Might as well just buy a brand new one and save yourself the rebuilding costs. IMO

hmmmm...looks like there may be some serious damage to the chassis from the angle of the impact. could affect the way it drives, i.e. the infamous Rx-8's handling. anyway, looks like potentially ten-k worth of work and "goodies" like mods. would it be worth the 20-24 K from buying one? I'd vote 'no' unless I was really into do-it-yourselfers. I have to admit though, I've had a car that was used and spent and I wasn't afraid to do some extreme mods to it. Good luck on your decision however.

To buy or not to buy RX8 part II
Hey guys, there is a 2004 RX8 I'm interested in buying, I have pics tell me if it is worth to fix, tell me how much you would buy it for and how much spending you think it might need, the suspension the guy said is alright, engine and tranny are fine, the right wheel needs a new upper/lower arm, the wheel itself is also fine, interior is mint with the exception of the passenger airbags going off. And the chassis looks fine. And I have the headlights for the car. One of them is a lil scratched up but I can live with that and should still work.

I don't think you can ask us if it's worth buying and fixing. We are merely drivers not auto body experts.
But from the pictures it looks like there is frame damage which will change a car forever. Unless you are an auto body expert or are related to one, I wouldn't bother taking that risk.

I was asking for mere opinions, that is all, i wouldn't hold it against any of you obviously, I currently have a Lexus GS430, 2001, but am considering the switch, one my Lex is over 120,000 8 cylinder which drinks gas as if it's an alcoholic and the RX8 only has13k, 2 , the chassis looks okay except for the reinforcement by the front bumper which needs to be pulled, I have gotten extreme price estimates, one guy said $8,500 to fix, another guy says $4,500, is the 8k guy ripping me off or is the 4k guy gonna do a half *** job? That is what I ponder.

You need to get a detailed list of repairs from both shops and use your judgement.
Use the higher quote for your purchase negotiations. Average price of 2004s are available on this site. I have found that most cars are never the same after being damaged. Good luck.

Yeah, the only way this would be worth it is with only cosmetic damage and a low price $8,000 and under.
The first one has no chance of ever being the same in my opinion and the 2nd while better, is still in bad shape.
Go find a used 2004...that would be a better road to take.
By the way, don't expect 24mpg in the city with the RX8...most likely it's going to be 20-16mpg in the city range with 20 being almost unheard of and 16 being the norm for lead foots (again...my opinion).
My avg: 19mpg city
