Buy now or wait a few months?

I did some searches and couldn't quite find my answer. I am looking to buy a RX-8 as my daily driver. Currently have a '02 Mazda Protege. I own two RX-7s both of which I love, and have been thinking about the RX-8 for some time now. It seems like a practical enough car for a daily driver for a single guy yet also a lot of fun.

Now it seems like I can get a 2007 Sport 6spd with the traction control option for 23,500 plus tax and tags. Do you all think this is a good deal, or should I wait a few months in hopes for better rebates? I wasn't sure if the current rebates are about as good as it gets or do things get better in the late summer/fall time frame. Just wanted to get everyone's opinion.

The only other thought was to wait until 2010 to see what the next rotary is, but part of me says I won't want to buy the first few years so probably would be more like 2012 which I think is way too long to wait for everyday rotary goodness

Thanks again.

I would wait a few months if only to find out what the features of the 2008 model are.

I'd personally be interested to see if they're adding a few niceties like an oil-level guage.

$23,500 is a good price for a 2007 Rx-8 I think after June or is it October the prices drop because 2008 will be out. If they throw in TTL that would be a great price to buy right now.

Pending which trim level that Rx-8 at I think they max out at $34k if thats a marked down $28-$26K dollar car I'd buy now. Is it leather trim does it have many options, how many miles, it maybe a program car, and is it 6 speed manual check the option listed on the side windows.

As I mentioned if thats a $28-$26k car on sale for $23,500 its not gonna get too much cheaper. In June-July you can find such deals, bc the 2008 about to be come out.

Sounds like a good deal. Last July I bought a 6 MT Sport with DSC (should be the same as what you're looking at) for $25,400 out the door. I think about $1000 of that was tax and tags. Price was S-plan, with a $1500 Mazda rebate. There was another $500 rebate available if I had financed. I don't think the rebates got any better than that.

I'd be surprised if the '08 lineup did anything more than change a few paint colors and maybe re-align some of the packages.

2012 is definitely too long to wait. What if we run out of oil and corn by then?

for an 07 that seems like a pretty good deal. I would at least see if i could get tax included in that price but i would probably buy it either way.

Just to clarify I believe the car had a msrp of about 29k. It is a 2007 sport with 6 speed. It does have the stability control add on which also has upgraded headlights I believe. There might me a few other little add-ons, but cloth interior. It is a black exterior (what I wanted).

23500 does not include tax and tags. Like I said I can wait if need be, but would love to have one of these cars. Just would be a bit put off if I would get a much better deal by waiting a few months.

I would think you would have to wait until winter or shortly thereafter to get a much better deal and depending on where you live that might not matter.

I'm sure it wouldn't hurt to walk in the door and say "I'll sign the papers today if you make that 23,5 including tax."

Whats the worst they say? "Can't do it" ?

then hand them your phone number and say "Give me a call if something changes" and turn around and walk out.

Honestly, go to Autotrader.com and look up 2006 RX8's. Find one that interests you and CALL them and find out what they are really asking for it. They are giving them away to make room for the 08's. There arent many left, but just to give you an idea I picked up an 06 Grand Touring yesterday, fully loaded for $8600.00 under sticker. ($33,600 - $8,600 = $25,000)

I drove 270 miles to get it, well worth it.

Price

The price will not get much cheaper. I work at a Mazda dealer as a sales consultant here in MN and a selling price of $23,xxx on a MSRP of $29,xxx is as good as it gets. I have an '06 shinka edition on the lot that has 5 grand off of it, and the '07 models have been out for a while.

I would wait, really the best time to buy a car is during the winter months. Nov, Dec, Jan tend to be the slowest months for dealerships and car buying in general. Your more likely to get a better deal then.

If it were me, I'd get it now.

Yes, if you wait a few months, the price might go a bit lower. But you'll also have a few less '07's to choose from. So… if it's important to get the exact color and trim level you want, buy now. If you'd rather save a little more, wait—but realize you might end up with not-your-favorite color. (Of course, you can wait and maybe get lucky, getting the exact 8 you want and a lower price.)

I say get it now. It's a great deal and you get to drive it through the summer while the weathers nice. If you wait for winter you have to immediately put snow tires on it and watch it get covered with salt and snow...and not even get to have fun with it!

Get it now and start smiling!
