Question Buyback ratio?

I'm curious -- has anyone seen any numbers on how many RX-8 owners took Mazda up on the buyback offer? Or would Mazda even make those figures public?

The last time I spoke to Mazda RX8 Customer Care line, I asked that same question. The rep said she didn't know for certain but she had heard it was 2%. Approximately, 3,000 of us got the offer, so that figures out to be about 60 buybacks. That's tiny in my estimation.

2%, or 60 cars out of 3,000 is tiny by any estimation! I'm pleased to hear it's that low. If anything, they ought to publicize that figure -- "Owners love the RX-8 *so* much, that only 2,940 out of 3,000 elected to keep theirs despite a generous, no-strings-attached buyback offer..."

uh, I called to confirm they received my "choice letter" in the mail two days before the deadline and asked about How many cars were returned and was told just under 10%. That would be just over 300 cars.

I'd be interested to know what percentage of the folks who returned their 8's were genuinely dissatisfied with the car vs those who simply took advantage of the opportunity to return it after three months' free usage and turned around and buy another one the next day.

People lose income(s), bitten off more than the can chew and so on. So I guess a few "buy-backs" are because of that...

I called on September 30th, and they told me just under 5%, so I bet they really didn't have any clue at that point....

Just got the email from mazda, they posted production of the RX-8 at 37,115, while they exported 23,852.

I know this doesn't say how many took the buy back but it might help out.

I received two "buy back" letters which I subsequently returned with my desire to keep my 8. How do I check that they actually received my letter and that my warranty extension was granted?

I think a little under 4k had been sold before the buyback deadline though. So those numbers don't really reflect the situation.

Hell most of the buybacks here that i saw were for unexpected finance reasons.

My dealer told me, and keep in mind, this is coming from the dealer, before I bought the car that somthing like only 30 or 60 people chose the buy back option, and of those, most turned around and bought a new RX-8 with higher specs. Maybe they decided the automatic wasn't worth it or something. But that's just what my dealer told me when he informed me of the issue.

thats what I did....not the next day though...SAME DAY! I'm really suprised more dealers didn't do what mine did which was help me every step of the way to make sure the buy back went smooth and quick and had me a new 8 waiting as soon as the check came in.
