Exclamation Buyers Beware Of Geico

This is an update to my RX8. Well they are not paying for my RX8 that I wrecked as I was told I passed my grace period. BUT... I called them a few days before we moved and made them aware that we were moving from one state to another and they said that is fine but let us know when you get there as we can not state your policy till your in the house. I was like well we bought the house and that is our physical address so why can't we just change it over now and they said that they are not able to do this, yet at this time they did not make us aware that the policy was due for renewal or anything like most agents do with their policy holders. So I was in an accident and now they are not covering it. OK! So with a new policy now with them and moving along I got a cracked in our SUV windshield and called them to make a claim on the crack. The guy said no problem you have that covered, put me on hold and came back on the line and said well you have liability! I went through the roof. I was calm but very blunt on the phone with him and made him aware that I paid for full coverage but he said since we relocated to another state that one of their represenitives was supposed to inspect the SUV since we are now in another state. I was like you mean I have been driviing around with liability and thought I had full coverage and paid for it but your telling me I only have the basic coverage? He said yes. I then cancealled the policy and they was somewhat shocked that I would canceal my policy over a windsheild claim. BUYERS BEWARE OF GEICO!!! I got better coverage and less money with American Family and better customer service! I have chose to share this experience with everyone as I don't want others to experience this same problem.

I don't blame you. I don't have experience with Geico or Progressive, but from everything I have heard and read they are both 2nd rate insurance companies.

Unfreaking believable. If you qualify, USAA is the best company I have ever dealt with. You have to be associated with the military though. (I think)

I've had Geico for about 9 years, and so far they've been the cheapest for me and I've had good service from them.

However, if I had your experience, I think I would have cancelled as well.

To qualify for USAA you have to be in the military or be the child of someone who has USAA. I wasn't in the military, but both my parents are and had USAA. So, since I'm their child I can get it. My children will also be able to get USAA (as long as I still have it when they get their own policy).

In general, they are very good. Probably not the absolute best prices possible, but it's probably the best coverage and service you can get for the money.

How do you find out about USAA as my dad was in the military years ago, not sure if that would apply or not.

I suppose you could call them. However, since your Dad isnt' a USAA member, I'm not sure you'd qualify. My advice would be to go do a tour of duty so that you'll qualify.

I like the new Gecko much better than the old one. I'm pretty sure it's because the new one is British. I would definately listen to a talking Gecko if it spoke with an British accent.

A stray little fact, a wee orphan of truth, wandering the streets, looking for a home in someone's ear.

Absolutely!

I've had USAA all my driving life and nothing compares. I somehow qualify through my mother, whose father, my grandfather, was an officer in the Marines.

This company actually did stress tests on the paint from the front clip of my '89 RX-7 way back in '95 to win a case against some individual who racked up gobs of hospital/ambulance bills who claimed I rear-ended him. He actually rear-ended the car in front of him. I didn't have to do anything, the insurance company took care of it.

Moved from Nebraska to Alaska a while back, and Geico straight up doubled my rates. They said it was location specific. Like there is a high theft rate in Alaska! Right. Dropped them instantly. Have been with USAA for about five years, and am happy with them. They sure make things easy being transferred every few years!

I like the Progressive commercial where the guy says at the end "If they are this great when you are shopping for insurance, just imagine how great they will be when you're actually a customer". That makes no sense. Of course they are going to tell you what you want to hear when they are doing the sales pitch. If there is ever a time that they are going to screw you over, it's when they have your money in their pocket. I have insurance through AIG. I think I pay about $65 per month for full coverage.

Cool

My wife hit a dog last year and Geico took care of the $1000 repair bill.

They were quick, and efficient, and they haven't raised our rates the next two renewals. When I bought my 8 last October, they only raised my six month premium by $359... this is with full coverage and a $250 deductible. I think they're pretty good.

Your situation just sounds like rotten luck....

Yep same here. Of all the insurance companies I've dealt with since I turned 16, Geico has had the best rates AND service.
