A/C cutout

A/C cutout
It was previously asked whether the A/C cuts out under full throttle conditions, to provide all available power for accellerations. Well, I've just started watching the RX-8 Technical Highlights CD, and I can report the answer is YES, it does.
Apparently, the PCM (as they're calling the ECU), automatically disengages the A/C compressor for 5 seconds when the throttle opening exceeds 65%. (No mention is made of what happens if the throttle remains wide open for more than 5 seconds.)

I think you should be coverd... think about it, if you are in second gear for ex. and you floor it, i think you will be shifting into 3rd within 5 seconds Of course the higher in the gears you go the longer between shifts... but if you are going that fast on a public street you should get a ticket... then again if you are on an open part of land and want to see what it can do, you shouldnt have the a/c on in the first place

The AC compressor would not re clutch because the rpm difference is too great. This would lead to too much stess on the belt.
I think that MB AMG SC V8 automatically engages the supercharger at 3500 rpms because anything higher would lead to eventual belt failure (and it has its own drive belt) and the supercharged V6 engages at 2500-it uses a common belt with all the other accessories.
