A/C isnt cold when coming to a stop
Greetings all, I just bought my RX-8 on Saturday. Its a Used 04 with 34,000 miles and I do have a few concerns.
When ever Im moving the A/C in the car blows cold, however if I come to a stop or sit in traffic the air is cool and not cold until car begins to at least roll. Is this a normal characteristic of the car ? I realize the A/C condensor is in 1 of the fog light openings and since there is no fan behind it, its possible the freon isnt cooling unless the car moves.
Thanks for any help
John

No its a 6sp. I was planning on taking it in to Mazda for service, but over the years Ive found these boards to be a helpful tool when having to deal with scumbag dealers

It doesnt, i think what hes seeing behind the fog light is the oil cooler, not the condenser

Get the A/C amplifier replaced if it hasn't been done before. Next thing to remember is the compressor on these cars are pretty small, and it takes rpm's for it to pump at a good rate, so when you are idling it isn't going to be nearly as cold as it would when crusing at 3k rpms. Also, make sure you have the latest ECU flash done (should be the "R" flash from the thermal recall) because the A/C is designed to cut out at a given rpm, before the "P" flash I think it wask 5k, with "P" and later flashes that cutout if 7k I believe. One last thing, the A/C will cutout if you go 70%+ throttle too, to give you extra power to pass or whatnot.
