A/C still sucks

A/C still sucks
I got the AC amplifier installed today after waiting like 2 months for the part to come in. I guess I expected it to fix the problem, but it didnt. It doesnt even seem like it did anything at all to remedy the problem. Does anybody have any other idea what the problem could be? I also got the M-Flash which they told me they did about a month ago or else they just re-flashed it with M again. Stupid *** dealers.

I installed this last week:
http://www.qwik.com/q_qwikboost.html
It helps quite a lot but I haven't had a day of strong sun to be sure yet. In any case I am going to inquire at the dealer about taking the seats and all the carpet out - insulating the entire undertray, footwells & trunk floor and putting it all back. Not sure how much it'll cost.
It's about stopping the heat getting in. With sun you can do tints - but that's illegal here. I've boosted the aircon as much as poss - so now it's down to reducing the heat from the engine, cat & gearbox getting into the car.
Whatever I do has to be fast as the heat is really rising out here right now.

I had the A/C fix finished yesterday as well and I couldn't be happier. It puts out a lot of very cold air. One thing they did was change an evaporater out which is behind the dash. I wasn't big on them pulling the dash but everything seams to be back together I can't see a single thing they have missed. The interior looks better also becuase they did a good job cleaning everthing when they were done. Keep after them, their are other fixes to the A/C that may help

Well, next weekend some of the STL people are getting together and a dealership (not the one I usually go to) is opening up their service dept for us on sat so I will ask them then if they have any more ideas. I should probably see if they even installed the correct part into my car. The location and such is on the TSB I think.

Being in Arizona, I was a little concerned about the various A/C probs others have reported but I can say, after a couple of days of riding about in 104/106f temps.. the A/C in my '8' works just fine.. (I'm an Ex-Brit so by no means am I used to the AZ heat..)
Maybe it works better in the dry heat of the desert rather than the humid heat of the SE? Maybe it's one of those individual car thingies.. where some A/C's work great and some don't even after the Amp fix? (Which mine had done before purchase)

I do believe the earlier models built are at fault. I had mine in early 08-03 and from day one the air is cycling badly from cold to warm every 5-8 seconds. The AC-amp. has been ordered months ago but i'm still waiting. The good thing is that up here i Mtl we have had a crappy spring and early summer and the AC, as bad as it is meets the very small challenge it faces here.

The a/c in my beater 95 vw golf is much colder then the rx8. I can keep cool at the 2 setting on golf, as opposed to having it at 3-4. It also takes a long time to cool off the rx8. I was disappointed in the a/c at first, then I realized something. THE DASH ON MY VW IS LIGHT GRAY, THIS IS BLACK. Also the windshield on the rx8 is just HUGE and more horizontal, and the sun beats down on it hard. The rx8 simply traps heat, and takes longer to cool. For me personally, it's not my just a sub par a/c, it's the design of the car and color of dash that plays a big role. Yes, I have to crank the a/c to stay cool, but I believe a lot of it is because of the interior color, and heat trapping design, not so muich the a/c system. I can feel the heat coming from dash when car is in sun like it's a kerosene heater, even long after car is running with a/c on full blast. On my 95 golf with the light gray dash, I don't feel it. Stick your hand on your dash one time after car has been sitting in hot sun, and you'll understand what I am talking about.

I had the cold then not so cool humid cycling issue. Once outside temps got over 80 degrees the air simply could not keep the car cool. Got the new amplifier installed last Monday. Problem appears to have been solved. Stays cold and doesn't get humid anymore.

well when ever I park my car I put a sunshade in the windshield so my dash is never really that hot. This is not an issue with the AC not blowing very cold, when it blows cold it is damn cold, but it is still cycling which pisses me off. It makes me think the dealer did not even install the new part. One thing that makes me think this is that when I first took it in for this they said they updated me to the M flash (which was probably L) then when I had it in two days ago for the AC they updated it to the M flash for sure since they did the MSP04 thing. So I am not sure anymore if they are really doing the work they are saying they are doing.

I have the same generally crappy AC as a lot of you do. I had the cycling problem, and got the new AC amplifier. I still don't get very cold air.
Before, when it would cycle, there was an audible "click" and the air got noticibly hotter and humid.
Now there's no sound, but the air still feels warm and sticky about 50% of the time.
It very well could be humidity levels. In the mornings, when it's 75-80 the AC works so well I have to turn the temperature **** about 1/4 of the way towards warmer. In the afternoon, when it's 90ish and 70% humidity the air (not the interior cabin temp) rarely gets very cold.

When I took mine in they said everything was "ok". I'm past the build where the amplifier is indicated. But when I looked at their report, the low-side pressure was 35 psi at 75 degrees ambient temp. Per the workshop manual it should not be over 20 psi. Hight-side pressure is in spec.
The troubleshooting guide seems to implicate either the evaporator expansion valve or some kind of sensor that is in the proximity to the evaporator coils. They also indicate that it could be as simple as the sensor not being located properly (creating a bad feedback loop?).
I've been too sick to worry about it lately but will eventually take it up with service again. It's hasn't been really hot lately and at lower temps it's harder to notice anything wrong. But, the refrigerant pressure chart covers a wide temperature range so they should be able to deal with it regardless.
Anyway, if anyone's gotten theirs back saying nothing's wrong, check the service invoice and see if they noted the pressures. I'd be interested to hear if anyone else has similar readings where the high side is normal but the low side is way above spec.

Mine functions marginally, hasn't been a real problem but it hasn't been ungodly hot yet. For a new car, it is rather timid. My wife's Honda CRV EX will litterally freeze you out in no time. What is different about the RX-8's AC when compared to other cars?
