All of this boy racer stuff is really wearing thin....I was afraid this would happen as the launch date for the RX-8 grows nearer!

According to rotarynews, there is a team that is going to be campaigning the pettit racing fd rx7 in the speed world challenge series, with plans to eventually be campainging a couple rx8s, when this happens, assuming someone else decides to run the 350z we'll get to see which one is finishing in front of the other.

Anyhow, I just wanted to bring the subject up again, since most of the people flaming me here insisted the 8 would beat the Z around the "track" in a thread a couple of months ago.
You were wrong then, and you're wrong now.
I'm buying an 8, because its gonna be a "fun to drive" car with "sports car like" characteristics and 4 seats. It is not competition for a GT, or true sports car. It is not competition for a Z; while I hate mag racing, the numbers are so far off that its blatantly obvious to anyone who knows ANYTHING about racing that this car is going to get owned by the Z on the street, and handily beat on the track.

A little googling turned up this thread on C&D forums by a guy named "buger" asking for Laguna Seca track times:
http://forums.caranddriver.com/ubb/u...&f=19&t=000505
Could it be the same buger ?
I'm not saying the rx8 can nevar l00se, but I'm willing to put good money on that it'll do much better then the magazine-racer numbers suggest!

The function of a moderator, is to weed out trollish posts and stop them before they start a flame war.
That's exactly what you're aching for -- and I don't want to see it happen. We don't need these low intelligence posts that are meant just to elicit a response from people that have been rather quiet and calm.
So you are buying an RX-8, good for you! The fact that the 350Z got top honors around a track (that is mainly STRAIGHTS) doesn't mean a damn thing. Let's get it onto Nurburgring vs the RX-8 and we'll see then eh? Or even Laguna Seca. I think the 350Z will be in the rear view mirror of the RX-8 because guess what... there's not as many straights on a track like Nurburgring or Laguna Seca.
Thus, please stop the trolling and if you have something to contribute we're happy to hear it. If your post says "I told you so" then my hope is that the mods on this forum decide to ban you quickly.. People like degrade good conversations (I've seen it on my site) and turn them into flame fests.
My expectations for this site are the same as my own -- a good natured, spirited, and EDUCATIONAL discussion. If you can't abide by that, I'll repeat it again: Get the hell off this board.

track time...
The track time of a 350Z vs an RX-8 - my opinion:
on any given day, either can win. Given the option of the rotary hands down I'll take an RX. Where would I put my other 1 or 2 passengers in the Z that are sitting in the back seat of my RX-8???
This is just the beginning of the return of the rotary, IMHO.
A slightly larger rotary using this new technology with a few pounds trimeed - all a Z will be seeing around a track is the back of a new RX-7 - and the sides as the Z's getting passed, the front as it approaches before passing, etc., etc., etc.

Weed away Herc....
BTW I drove Nurburgring (old track) in my Z28 back in the day ('89). That track is mad twisty as it winds through a few small towns. Anyway I was passed by a few lesser HP cars (944's, VW GTI's etc) why? Because they like the 8 handle so much better at a faster average speed than a lot of higher HP/Torgue cars. Of course I made up some ground on the couple longer straights but not enough
I did blow away a bunch of Citroens though :D
I got his "told ya so" hangin'. Buy a Civic Troll.

I myself was stunned at the 1:50 that BM ran at Laguna. That's an amzaing time for a stock car.
FYI- the downfall of the 350Z on the track, even the Track package, are its brakes. Last time I was at Sears Point, the 350Z had to go back into the pits after several hard laps as he was getting huge brake fade.
I actually was surprised at the time of the RX8 at Laguna as I would have expected that the long uphill and the long straight would work against its modest power. But hey- great chasis balance pays off.
I'd fuly expect at power tracks like Willow Springs for the Z to top the RX-8. But the 8 can clearly hold its own on the track, and take the Z at a good number of tracks.
NB- I'm just talking stock vs stock. Obviously any mods will change everything.

Oh- and here's praying for the 8 to do well so Mazda will finally come out with a new RX-7 and I can finally own a brand new RX-7.
300hp plus 2600lbs plus stiffer body plus more aggressive suspension = an incredible track car for the street.
I still love watching the clip of a last gen RX-7 smoking the Porsche Turbo of that year around the Nurburing.
