Everytime I Start My Car And Put It Into Gear, It Makes A Scraping Sound. This Only Happens When I First Start The Car And Put It Into Gear. Have You Guys Experienced This?

I have had my car for just over 2 months and a couple of ago I think I experienced what you describe. When I started the car and went into reverse I felt as if something caught or as if I had run over a rock...this could have been the grinding you describe. Will keep my ears open and thanks.... My question for you is if it is normal for smoke to come out from under the hood when I have been driving the car for over half an hour at a controled speed? At first I thought it could be the paint and new car burn off but I am beggining to wonder. I know these cars are supposed to burn oil and so could it be that the exhaust is not completly going out the back (muffler pipes) Need someones input....thanks

last first- smoke should NOT come out from under your hood. but its probably some oil that spilled an is burning off
first last- people please read your manual. the ABS does a self test everytime you start the car and go over 3-4 mph. in reverse or a forward gear.

...resulting in a slightly weird clunk that could feel like you ran over something or something was slightly grinding. Nothing to worry about. Scared me at first too, but the guys on here straightened me out pretty fast

that's funny because when people first started getting their cars there were alot of "ihave had other cars that had ABS and they didn't do this something must be wrong" posts. the reason this car (and others) do this when other ABS cars in the past didnt is because of OBDII and the amazing abilities of todays PCM. baically the olders couldnt handle the amount of systems checks that the new ones do.
