Can you teach me to drive one?

I could have sworn grinding gears damaged the transmission.. but obviously it seems I was wrong..

Interesting observations about learning on a low torque car. My first try at driving a stick was in my brother's '49 Ford, with a worn clutch. Really easy. The I bought an Alfa Guilietta - not exactly a high torque engine - and wondered how I lost the knack.
I tried teaching a girlfriend, using the Alfa. We never got past "Imagine two rotating cymbals."

Damn boy grab your nuts and go for it!!
does she have a brain in her head??? If so I don't see a problem with it, I taught every GF, niece, nefew, and some friends with an RX7. and had not one bit of trouble.
Nine hours after buying my first 8, taught the wife to drive a 6 speed in 20 min.
Go somewhere like a subdivision or parking lot and get the clutch down first, when that is done then shifting.
Then........ some personal time teaching the rest of it!!

Id try to hit it first, at least then you wont have fucked up your car for nothing if things go bad.
Rotary Ressurection: that FC in your sig is sweet makes me want to get one and fix it up. The 8 looks BIG next to it, Im afraid of the horror stories Ive heard about the FDs and have read the FCs are bullet proof by comparison.

Another case of girls controlling guys with their assests!
In the end, it's up to you; if you feel it is no big deal, then do it. If you think it may cause damage to your car, then don't.

Something for something.
Tell her if she first takes pictures on your car in a bikini to post on our forum then you'll teach her. Teaching her for free is just telling her your a tool that can be manipulated. If she digs you she'll be in to it. If she just wants to use you she'll get all pissy and stomp off. But not actually like you any less.
Win win in my book.

During the time that I learned, and when I taught 3 other females, no gear grinding was ever done. It was more along the lines of jerking the car, burning the clutch, and chirping the tires. If a person is grinding gears, they will probably never be able to learn how to work the clutch.

Haha, this reminds me of two things:
1. I learned to drive stick in my 8 -- or rather, I learned to drive stick well in my 8. (It's been a whole week and two days now, lol.) Before that was ten years ago in my grandfather's old pickup truck, and I only drove it twice.
2. I have a girl who's a friend (sigh) who's been driving stick since she learned to drive, and she helped an ex rebuild the engine in his FD. (she admits all she really did was watch and get tools for him, but still!) Yeah, she only dates big burly guys. Pisses me off to no end.
