Shut the engine off before trying to put gas in the tank!

This has happened to me a couple times in my P5, I found out that if I leave the engine running (to keep warm) there's a pressure buildup at the tank that will force the gas out and the nozzle will shut itself off.

Try it and let us know if it worked

Merci for posting and letting us know this information! Sounds like you have one of the good dealers. What is the dealers name in case I have problems while in Montréal?

Interesting. I'm wondering how the valve ended up frozen in the closed position. I guess I need to take a look at the shop manual. I remember reading another thread where the person was having trouble getting gas into the tank.

I wonder if maybe the air in the tank was cold, and then warmed up. That could account for the valve sticking.

More likely though, there was condensation in the fill pipe, and it actually froze. It was, after all, several degrees below zero (celcius) in Montreal when he posted this.

HAHAH -29. Holy cold... theweathernetwork.com says you only got down to like -17 in Montreal... are you not in the city proper?

The catch-thingy (technical term) is basically a one-way valve that keeps fuel from sloshing up the tube when driving. I've had a bit of trouble with it myself. Iowa isn't exactly the warmest place on Earth this time of the year either. Luckily, I knew what was going on when the pump kept shutting off. I just let gas trickle down the tube for a bit and it was fine. Although, it was only about -10F when it happened to me. Sorry I didn't see this post sooner, or I could have saved you some ripping on by those who don't appreciate thier neighbor to the north.
