Ok I give up!!! mine is not adjustable. I see the two ball joints. I pull up and the whole thing came off the windshield base tab. I does not move!!!!! Mine was built JUne 2004. That a difference? So now I get to go home and tighten the screw at the base. The mirror does not move or am I doing something wrong? I used to be a car mechanic many moons ago and have tons of tools and I can't figure out the so called adjustable mirror. The manual does not tell you to adjust it up or down either. Maybe the older RXs have a different mirror? Mine is the homelink but reading this thread that makes no difference. Bummer

Did you see the video Jason posted on how it moves? You can just put your fingers on the bottom of the mirror and push upwards and the whole thing will pivot on the glass.

Now it coming off might have been bad glue is all. I know that a brand new 05 white car with the homelink mirror was exactly the same as before.

no luck. I guess I am not a mechanic anymore. Need to see the video. Anyone know how I can see it? The search button does not help either.

Yeah the manual does not show you how it adjusts either. I grab the black mirror part and pull up and nothing happens. Is it the mirror itself that moves or is it the black stem that goes to the mirror move up and down?

Jason to the rescue!

Ok that worked. I missed it before. One must hold the base where the black part has the windshield tightner on it. I pulled the whole contraction off on mine. LOL All was left was the little glued on metal base part. It slipped back on ok. Now I have to go home and tighten the contraction to the windshield. Can see better now. Amazing what we find on these threads.

Why does that remind me of the Pamela Anderson - Tommy Lee video?

Didn't take much to do that with one hand too.

I'm sorry but this is almost pathetic! Absolutely not flaming... but I thought EVERY car made within the last like 10 years has had this feature. I've had: 89 Mercury, 89 Buick, 96 Dodge, 03 Suzuki, 99 Pontiac, and 00 Ford... all of them have done that! So have the many cars I've test driven from Mazda to Nissan to Porsche! (BTW, just grab hold of the stem between the mirror and the windshield and gently push it up to the roof. Then, readjust the mirror part as you like.) I do this on EVERY car I get into! First thing I do. You guys need to get out more...

I LOVE THIS FORUM!

Neon, Intreprid, Dakota quad cab, two 993's, 944, Mustang, Grand am, and some others, and this is the first car that I've ever had to adjust more than the angle of the mirror. The RX-8 had the mirror so low that it blocked my view. If the other cars I've owned had double joints, I never needed to know about it.

It could be possible that most other cars come with it in a higher position so there is no need to fix it, because out of the ones you listed, I had a Grand Prix, Mustang and Neon and they all did it. The Porsche Boxter I recently test drove did it too. I just checked and my mom's 96 Taurus and Brother's 86 Tercel do it too. Probably a little known fact about cars then. Like to get into the trunk, you can open that big hatch on the back of your car instead of going through the back seat.

This is definitely the first of about 10 cars that I have owned that this has ever been an issue with as well. As such, I have no idea whether any of those other vehicles had this capability.

I'm thinking that the parts supplier delivers mirrors with the joints in that position. The mirror is attached to the car at the factory, and like 99% of us, the assembly line workers and the guys at the dealership don't know to move the upper joint.

I'm just glad for this forum.

I went out to my car a couple of hours ago to try it, and sure enough it works.

And man, what a huge difference it makes! One of the best "little tidbits" I have seen on this forum.

I can see! I can see!
