Car at dealership for 2 weeks, back ordered catalytic converter?? anyone else?

The dealership has had my car for almost 2 weeks because of a clogged cat causing no power. They tell me that the catalytic converter is on back order, and so far have given me no updates as to when they will get it.

Has anyone else had any problems lately with back ordered parts from mazda....specifically, cats? Are these guys just jerkin' me? What do you think?

cats are very expensive for our cars, I doubt they have a ton lying around.
Sucks to hear they are currently back ordered.

did they give you a rental?

To see if they are jerking you around. Go to another dealership's parts department or call them, and tell them you want to order a catalytic converter for your RX-8. They'll let you know if it's backordered!

This doesn't help, but I had mine replaced two months ago and they must have had the cat on hand because they took three hours for oil-change + warranty to replace my cat.

Check Rockauto.com. They have a Walker cat for $271. Never tried Walker brand, but I have purchased parts from Rockauto and they have never let me down.

If the cat is under warranty, there's no reason to let them replace it with an aftermarket part.

My cat was replaced under warranty last month. The dealer either had one in stock, or knows a really fast supplier. Brought the car in around 3 one afternoon, they had it diagnosed a bit after 4, and it was all done by the next afternoon.

Not that I've needed a lot of parts, but the only one that took much time to get was a sun visor.

They're jerking you around.

Oh yeah. Emissions related parts have a long warranty.

It took my car 4 week just to get warranty approval. But now that its approved their sending me a new cat and engine. they said that the parts are on back order because of the earth quake in Japan. So I would believe it..

Problems still arises in Japan causing some parts to be delayed much longer than usual.

So are you saying that Lodes and I got the last two cats in the US?

And that the replacement engines, which are rebuilt in Virginia, somehow go through Japan?

haha thats funny, I just had my Cat replaced also like 2 weeks ago and today they replaced my engine and starter all under warrenty. im at 78k miles and its an 04. When they ordered the catalytic converter, they said it was the last one in north america and i was extremely lucky they had one left else they would have had to wait a while for japan to send one over.

Now they thought there was no more Engine either in North America but they found the last one which was in Toronto, else they had to order one from Japan. Not sure if they were BSing me but by reading this im starting to believe it.
