Ask yourself ,,what do you want from a new car?
I personally would always go with the lowest mileage for the buck.
You should be able to get a 2005 RX-8 for around that same price if you look hard enough.
And it should be NEW.
I have heard stories about older used BMW's and the engines not being reliable. But that is just what I have heard.
You know you are asking a bunch of RX-8 lovers this question.
So what kind of answer do you expect from us?
Get the RX-8. Happy motoring

Of all these the only one that I would avoid is the 850 due to parts and service being so expensive. And it's ugly. It really depends on what you want out of a car. All other things being equal, I'd go for the M3.

I'd say that's kind of a tacky pool to choose from. Well lets see...the 8 is the only car from this decade...and aside from the M's, its in a somewhat different catagory.
Considering how 4 of your 5 decisions are luxury based, not to mention your current BMW, the 8 doesn't sound like it fits you. If it's a diamond in the rough, you must be looking for cubic zirconia. Enjoy the 90s.

If you have the patience to look...
Find a low-mileage, HARDTOP M3. By low-mileage, for an M3, I mean under 50k. They seem to last 100k+....
I've had first hand experience in 2 generations of M3's...a 2005 and a 1999...and boy oh boy, it's a great car!

unless you have the money cash in hand, get a brand new car 0 miles, the way i look at it if you gonna make payments make it worth it. get a 2006 M3 dont get the Rx8 this car needs too much care to keep it neat and that one already has a history you dont know about. basically used BMWs are expensive to keep after the warranty is over, Rx8 is the best car i ever been but Mazda service sucks, lexus way too old.

On your list the RX8 is the best choice. Those BMWs are nice but are going to be mega bucks to service. The RX8 is not only newer, but will handle better and last longer while giving you an very sexy ride inside and out.
AdRoCK3217, I got over 265K miles out of my last Ford Explorer.

Pros:
-The focus has LOTS more headroom. At 6'3" I can fit comfortably in the focus, EVEN when sitting straight up. I still have another 3 or 4 inches to spare up top
-There is quite a bit more trunk space, even with a spare tire under the trunk
-With the manual seat adjustments sliding my seat forward/back is much quicker (only applies to some RX-8s)
-3 seatbelts in the back
-A bit more legroom for the back seat passengers, and a bit more headroom
-The cabin does not fog up as easily on humid days, because it is larger
-The back seats lay down, for lots of cargo area
-It doesn't burn oil, so no need to check it every week or two
-Better gas mileage. I get about 25-26 mpg instead of 18mpg
-Tires are cheaper
-TCO is far less
-Doesn't recommend premium gas
Cons:
-It seems to have a little less power than the 8
-Not nearly as unique as an 8
I guess that's about it.
So anyone who wants better gas mileage, more room, less hassle- go check out a focus! You'll love it!
