This car sure gets lots of attention
Had this car less then a week and look at all the attention it attracts.
At the mall I parked at the far end of the lot with no other cars. This one guy drove twice around my car just looking at it.
Where I work these two strange dudes pulled into our parking lot and parked next to it, jumped out to take a closer look at my car.
I'm sure other events happen when I wasn't looking. Better keep this car in a safe place.
Also my dealer called and said the next RX8 they are getting won't be in until 2 weeks into Aug. I still haven't seen any others on the road.
Saw a Red auto one at a dealer in Hanover, PA. I'm glad I got the silver. Looks so much nicer I think then the red.
When it rains the V hood is curved so it'll just drain off when you stop. It does pool up near the windshield when your driving which is fun to look at.

I'm a big fan of the Silver as well. Silver with black on black leather and get some nice tint on those windows... man I want this car bad
Saw my first one on the road the other day, barely got a glimpse of it though.

Most of the folks who look at the car don't seem to know what they're looking at, but are intrigued to the point of staring.
Others know what they're looking at: One fella said he didn't know the 8s were in the country yet and asked knowledgeable questions, another in a MB SL500 said he owned an RX many years ago and had a great time with it. And another had seen the rotary ep on the History Channel and knew it was a rotary, but didn't know much more than that.

I can't even begin to count the number of thumbs up I've gotten, let alone the number of rubber-neckers. Last night I happened to be sitting outside a poolhall I was playing at and watched a guy drop another guy off (presumably for work at a supermarket, he was in a uniform), then drive past my car, park, walk back over to the supermarket, get his friend from inside the supermarket, comeback out and check out the car and then drove away while his friend went back to work.
I've been surprised by 2 seemingly knowledgable people though who have confirmed with me that it is, in fact, a rotary and then proceded to ask how many cylinders it has.... :p

You think that's bad - ChuckClifford and I work at the same base, so I looked him up in our global email addressbook and drove over to his building. I parked next to his car, took a picture hi-lighting my personalized plate (B-Nez), and then posted it on the forum. I am such a goober...:p :p

Every stop light somebody is looking or yelling or making gestures (usually thumbs up sometimes finger up) . seriously I have lost count on the number of times I saw some one snap their head looking as I go by. Everytime I park the car it draws a crowd. Once it was a guy that worked for a Mazda dealer. He was all excited because his dealer hadn't got any yet. I even got flagged down by a 350Z club that wanted to check it out. They loved it by the way! Then two teenage guys in RX-7's stopped by to worship me and the car, they were all crazy that I let them sit in it and start it. They couldn't stop grinning. I went to a local weekly car meet Saturday night and when I parked it was like throwing a cupcake on an ant hill or a magnet in a pile of metal shavings.
I have a feeling when the attention stops I will have withdrawl.

What thread did you post your pic? Can't seem to find it.
Edited:

Have withdrawals? lol... Not as long as I'm around. I love the RX-8 and I feel like a lil boy who cries everytime he sees someone with something he wants and doesn't have.

Went to check out the first one in town yesterday (SINCE MINE STILL ISN'T HERE YET ). Cars were pulling u-turns to come back to the dealership to see the car. I was there maybe 15 minutes and at least 6 cars pulled in to take a look. One kid in a Mustang (older 5.0) got out and asked the salesguy if it had a V6 :p -- to his credit the salesguy said no it has a "non-conventional engine with 6 rotating combustion chambers" -- way over the Mustang kid's head :D

Ive had mine for about a week. the same double takes ...thumbs up, u turns ........some actually stop and ask questions. I had a couple in their 60's get out of their car and look it over.......I think the most intriguing part for them was the "odd looking half door".
BUT......there is a down side. Its the Z28 and firebird, Rustang 5.0 guys who have been pissing me off. They Immidiately say..."whats the horsepower?"....or "whats the quartemile times". Then they spout off some way off figure about their car..." mine does low tens.."
Do these peolpe have any idea that what a sports car is.......it surely is not an obscenely heavy car with tiny brakes and a pushrod V8 that really hasnt evolved much in the last 30 years......not to mention the sagging oversized doors with a faded eagle painted on the hood and a Judas Priest sticker on the rear window....grrr

Hi RX-8 Zoomster,
B-Nez and Chuck Clifford both work at Hurlburt Field near Fort Walton Beach, Florida.
Chuck and I had been trying to post pictures of this car on the forum, and wouldn't you know that B-Nez beat us to it! He got to post a pic of our car before we did.
Oh well, he may have posted the first picture of our 8 on the forum, but he doesn't get to drive it! (Although I did offer to give him a test ride). :D
Here's hoping to B-Nez getting his car very soon!

I can see it already. People judging the car by 1/4 mile times and hp. A true motorsports enthusiast will judge it's OVERALL performance.
I'm probably one of the very few that have driven the 8 through some twisties at ~5500k+ doing ~50mph+. That's a far better rush then going in a straight line. Then coming in to a hairpin turn and hitting the apex is amazing. Very grippy around tight cornering then just pulls right out when you get to staightaways.
Let them judge the 8 by straight line times... most of them probably have never experienced shicanes (sp?) and hitting apexs.

This car is indeed an attention getter. As a passenger that has now experienced over 500 miles in this car, I can honestly say both men and women are taking second looks.
We have been stopped several times to answer questions. Some automatically say Is this the new RX-8?, and some just ask What is this car? People have motioned us to roll down the window so they could ask the same questions.
Do women notice this? Yes indeed. While driving out toward Destin (bad mistake, bumper to bumper summer tourist traffic) to drive along the beachfront road, a group of college girls with an OSU Cowboys tag couldn't take their eyes off it. As a matter of fact, I would say as many women have stared at the car as men.
We get the thumbs up everywhere. We have come out of stores and restaurants several times and found crowds standing or walking around the car.
I have never seen a vehicle get this kind of attention before.

Hey NegatiZE,
I heard that Buzz Leonard Mazda received 1 RX-8 back on July 14th, the same day we got ours in Pensacola. As of this morning, Quality Imports here in Fort Walton Beach still hadn't received their cars. Quality had added port installed options on both of the first 2 cars due in, and they have been showing released since about July 11th. Do you know who got the first 8 in Panama City? Also, does anyone know if the Tallahassee 8s are in yet?
BTW, I really can't imagine anyone "not" wanting this car. It is absolutely awesome!

We are currently vacationing in Panama City Beach, and have been here since Saturday. It has been amazing the attention the RX-8 gets.
While it is parked at the condo, I have it positioned in a parallel parking spot to discourage dings, and it also is in view of the bedroom window. Most times when I look out to check on it, there are usually people scoping it out.
Driving is another matter. The kids down here know their cars, as I have heard "Check it out Dude...that's an RX-8" so many times I forgot count. Thumbs up everywhere.
I did have to blow off a Prelude yesterday...and that was with 2 teenagers in the car with me. This car is quite impressive.
Tonight we are going to do some cruising -- should be fun for this 44 y.o.
