car wont turn over...please help

hey....im not sure if this is a very common problem or not, i searched but didnt really find an answer......heres whats goin on?
i can start my car, drive it to work and it will start up when i leave.....but if lets say i go drive it and shut it off. and try to start it back up soon after it wont start....i have all my lights radio and all that stuff. just no starting, not even trying...its not flooded it doesnt even turn over. the STARTER DOESNT GO, no clicks, no nothing, just silence......but if it sits for a few hours it will work....when it does this i get a little light flashing of a car with a key inside it.....this has been goin on for about 2 months now so i have just been drivin my truck but this is bugging me cuz i'd love to drive the car more often........so after reading some on here today i thought you know maybe ill try disconnecting the battery and seeing if that helps. so i started it, went for a ride. came back and shut it off.....tried to start it back up and nothing, just like always. so i pop the hood and disconnect the battery, hook it back up. and walah, the car starts, but not really quickly...took about twice as long to start it as it usually does. and was idling low, might have shut off if i didnt catch it. the lights dimmed and stuff. about 30 secs later everything seems fine but my traction control light stayed on constantly like i was always spinning and the "DSC OFF" light is flashing.....so i shut it off....a few hours later coming home i started it..this time it started normal. traction control like was on and the other was still flashing...pulled out and started driving and the flashing dsc light went away but the traction control light in the tach stayed out. it spins, it has no traction control.....anyone have any idea what this is....it does it with all of my keys too.
thanks guys

You're 100% sure it's not flooding? After reading the part about taking it for a short trip and turning it off, that's what I would've thought.

Did you try the deflood method in your manual when this happened?
Other than that, I think it's a good idea to take it to your dealer and have them check it out.

As for the traction lights not going away, it happened because you disconnected your battery. Now you'll have to recalibrate your steering wheel. I think you'll need to put the key to the position where you can turn your steering wheel all the way to the left, all the way to the right and then back to center. Turn the key to the off position, then turn it back on and the problem should go away.

Key to on(no start), Steering wheel right all the way, then left all the way, turn key off, then on and verify lights are gone.

And someone with more experience than me needs to jump in, but I'm actually suspecting the battery......but what the hell do I know.

Yep, sounds like flooded plugs.

Are you hearing the ding ding ding when you turn on your key?

If no it's the battery. Either way it doesn't sound like your that mechanical so bring it in.

failing the tummy rub I'd be inclined to look at the battery or the battery connections as the culprit .

Take it to the dealer... It might have something to do with the factory theft-deterrent system...when you turn the key and nothing happens.. (then you notice the car with the key flashing.... )....??

It is not a flooding issue - trust me I have had this more times than I wish to remember before Mazda finally replaced my motor. The OP said the starteer never turns the motor - the flooding issue doesn't keep the motor from turning over - only from not starting.

I suspect it has something to do with the anti-theft system. As others ahve said, take it to the dealer

well see your problem is that everyone needs to be on the same side of the car. with some people on the drivers side and some on the passengers, llike you have now, you are working against each other. have the folks on the passenger's side join you on the driver's side and all lift together. that should do it.

Now, that's funny. It didn't even click at first. Hahahaha.

OT: I agree with abbid and the rest...take it to the dealer, this is what warranties are for.

my 2 cents

Just to add to the convo, I had this problem once. This is going to be linguistically confusing, but this was right after my car got flooded, as in high rainwater up to the door-sill level. Occationally, it just wouldn't crank at all, as this poster described. Then, 5 minutes later, it would crank, but there would be maybe a less than 1 second delay between turning the key and it cranking, that I had never experienced before. Anyone know what might cause this? Corrosion on the electrical system maybe?
