Carfax... Owners Reported
The key thread and me trying to find the "second" key that would have came with the car got me thinking. Is there a way to find out who the previous owners were through carfax or the dealership???
Also, I know carfax mentions that each title/registration record does not mean a "new" owner, but why would this be. Carfax only lists 3 "owners" for my RX8, but lists 5 different title transactions.
81 miles - 5/7/2004 Title or registration issued, First owner Reported (Cincinnati, OH)
~7,500 miles - 11/9/2005 Title or registration issued (Louisville, KY)
7,923 miles - 2/25/2006 Title issued or updated, new owner reported (Madison, IN)
11,120 miles - 5/27/2006 Title issued or updated, new owner reported (Madison, IN)
24,186 miles - 10/17/2006 Title issued or updated (Madison, IN)
Here is a link if you want to look at everything as it might help I guess:

Thanks in advance for any help/insight.

You cant get other people's information thru carfax.
but as the Carfax saids, the car was original a *lease* car, the leasee for whatever reason ended the lease at just 1 year and 5 months.
then the car just *blank* for about a year something before it was sold at another state, and so on.
if you want to know who has your other key, what you can do is have your dealership to *delete the missing key data* and program the new keys.
The missing key can still open your doors, but cannot start your car.

Yep, it is my project car (the RX8 is my wife's daily driver, and my "fun/handling" car). The Buick is currently torn apart, ripped the supercharger off of it and building it up for the Turbo kit that is going onto it. Hoping to have it back running before the end of the month. Goal with the Buick is high 12's, but depending on how aggressive I do the tuning/torque management it should be able to hit 11's (but I do not have money for a new motor and tranny so my tune will be conservative).
nycgps... It is not as much me worrying about who has the other key as much as me hating to pay the stealership $200 + dollars to get a new key and everything programmed so that I have a spare key/remote. Everything I have read on here says you can only add things yourself if you have at least two keys. I guess you could just say it mainly stems from me being "cheap"

most likely your car traded several hands during the process to sell it 1. mazda to lease co.2.lease co. to customer.3.customer back to dealer 4.dealer to new lease.5.lease back to dealer to you! pain in the behind but each person owning the car be it the custmer or dealer should provide you with the thre keys the car came with or pay a (or any )dealer to change the code ,key locks or what ever it takes to be sure your the only one with a set of programed keys for your car!in some places it's the law.check with your title dept. and or dept.of motor vehicles .NOBODY whats or needs keys to there car floating around for what ever reason period!!!

Maybe one of the former lenders has the other key.
Very often a condition of a car loan is to give the lender a copy of the key. That makes it a lot easier to pick it up if they have to repossess it.
