Carmax doesn't want your aftermarket parts. They actually lower the value of the car to them. They only like totally stock vehicles. Expect an offer of about $8000 if that.

carmax is a bunch of assclowns. they are bottom feeders who take advantage of what are often times people in bad situations...all while masquerading as your best friend. LOL

Ok look I work at Carmax. I can honestly tell you that we don't make BS offers, people just think this because it isn't what they want to see. Kelly Blue Book is trash, it's nothing but outdated data collected from inflated dealer trade ins. KBB is telling what your car is worth based on old data and not only that it tells you what is worth in its best season. The market has "seasons" in which a sports car for example is worth more in spring and summer than the end of the summer which of course is the time where a ton of them hit the market since they aren't great in winter weather. Maybe I'm biased but thats how it is, and with us you get some peace of mind. So thats how it works.

BTW remove your aftermarket parts. Carmax pays less for them than stock since they will just send it to wholesale if it has engine or suspension mods. Also guys please be considerate of others. I work at Carmax and I don't feel like any of us are bottomfeeding a-holes. We are good people who like cars, like our customers, and know what we are doing. We honestly use good data to make offers with. If you don't like our offer then don't take it but it doesn't make us jerks who were trying to advantage of you or anyone for that matter.

sorry to bring it to you bro but we arent pointing fingers are any individuals we are blaming the COMPANY and you may be correct BUT i have PERSONALLY caught carmax trying to sell cars using carfax reports that werent of the car itself and have also caught them showing copied carfaxes where if you look close you can tell the placed paper on top of the damage reports and this has happened on SEVERAL different occasions at different carmax stores so if theyre not honest about that what are they honest about? and yes i have reported them ... i dont buy there ever but usually tag along with friends in case they need my help

Carmax and others like them make questionably low offers to easy targets...errr, I mean customers (who often times have no other option available to them) so that they can fill their own coffers with the difference when they turn the car around.
They do not throw themselves on their sword to help you out...they are not your friend...they are a business who will do whatever it takes to keep their gears greased...always at the expense of the consumer. End of story.

i think the reason that carmax is such a bad deal is that they have too much overhead and pass that along to the customer. they might not be trying to hose a lot of people but they are a business trying to make as much money as they can (which isn't a bad thing) but also have a lot of payroll to cover as well. i have never seen a good deal from someone selling or buying from carmax.
my sister bought from there before i could tell her not to. she bought her '04 RX8 for $25K in late '05. there is no way she should have paid that much and even beyond that they listed it as having a spare wheel and 6 disc changer which it did not have. they promised to get it for her but she never saw it. finally after some heated calls they finally just cut her a check but not what she should have gotten.
this wasn't the first or last bad deal i've seen there and only wish she had told me before she purchased b/c i would have steered her away. in theory the 'no haggle' idea is great. in practice, it just means you provide your own KY.

My only experience from a Carmax was from their licensed Toyota side owned by them on the same property, rebuilding my Corolla's engine under extended Toyota warranty. Closest dealer to where it blew and all. Well,
-the 8hr rebuild time took 63(?) days,
-they managed to swap every single lugnut with random ones so when I had a flat 3 weeks later, I had to beg and borrow 3 different lug wrenches to get the 4-lug wheel off,
-damaged the paint on the roof and hood with lateral scratches that had to come from sliding a box back and forth across them,
-removed part of my dash and never re-bolted it, and it fell on my legs as I was leaving the lot (and needed another full day dropped off there to 'fix'),
-and to top it all off, they removed the transmission for a paid clutch replacement, and when they reinstalled it, put the transaxle seals in the wrong place, which drained my transmission fluid, and hosed the transmission. It was bone dry and several parts were melted together that didn't look like they should have been.
So yeah...
+1 to Carmax.
