Carpeting . . . or trunk liner fuzz?

Have you noticed the RX-8's carpeting? It looks more like trunk liner fuzz to me. I would expect real carpeting to be more durable, but maybe this is something new. I was kind of surprised how cheap it looks.

I was wondering what was up with the trunk-like cloth material on the front side of the rear wheel wells...check that out! What up wit dat? Really cheap looking & I wonder what it will look like in two years!

This was discussed in an earlier thread. It's designed to reduce road noise, and someone reported that they had another car with a similar setup which had been through a northern winter with no problems.
