Cars going back to shop...need help

Ok, so they replaced my engine last month cause the first one lost compression. Ever since then, the car has a hard time starting and when it does it throws a code for the crankshaft sensor. They adjusted it but didn't work so they took the sensor off the old engines and put it on...same issue still. Also, since replacing the engine the cooling fan comes on a lot which never happened with the old engine and I sometimes smell coolant but temp gauge reads normal. Also, ever since new engine has been put in, when the car is in gear, there's a raddling, ticking noise that sounds like engine knock and when I asked them about it they said its normal for rotary engines. I don't believe this since the old engine didn't do this. Is it possible the replacement engine they got me was bad? I'm takin it back to them Tuesday.

it is possible that you got a crap engine replacement. wouldn't be the first time...
the temp gauge is a dummy gauge. don't trust in it too much. keep an eye on your coolant level. could be leaking into engine, and that is no good!

Reset the NVRAM - alot of dealerships forget to do this after swapping motors.
Switch the key on and tap the brake pedal 20 times. You will see the oil pressure gauge needle sweep to the middle and back indicating a reset.
That should get rid of your eshaft sensor code.

With my second engine, the fans came on a lot. Eventually the temp gauge did start to move. Turned out to be the thermostat, but it was too late at that point and a seal started leaking and I needed a third engine. Remember the temp gauge is an idiot gauge and won't start moving out of the "normal" range until it's too late. Now I'm running an aftermarket gauge so I can keep a closer eye on temps.

It was a used engine with 58K on it. They showed me how to reset the NVRAM when they replaced the engine and it had an issue starting however when I am having to do that almost everyday, then thats a no go for me. I am also worried about the knocking noise when in gear. This is a automatic tranny and only when in hear does it make the noise however its coming from the engine. I just want the car sounding like it used to when I bought it but with the power of the new enginer
