Castrol syntec and half quart of oil stabilizer. Suggestions?
I bought a 2004 rx8 gt with 52,900km and he uses castrol syntec with half pint of oil stabilizer. Is this a good idea? Should I be using conventional oil or stay with this blend. I have heard ppl say to not use synthetic in rotarys. I have done many searches I'm looking for someone who has used synthetic in thier rx8 or has any knowledge with the pros and cons of oils in the rx8

An oil discussion asking "what is best" is literally pulling the trigger to start a religious war.
Basically, you are going to find someone of every possible opinion, you are going to find people that stick to 1 choice and to hell with everyone else, you are going to find people that switch it up and don't particularly care, and you are going to find people that have no clue what they are talking about.
In a nutshell though:
- Mazda did not test with synthetic, so they were unable to label it as "recommended". This was termed "not recommended" from a negative of an active recommendation, but people take it as an active bar against. People on this forum, people in dealers, etc...
- Mazda can not legally void your warranty for using Synthetic, however many dealers may try because of this misunderstanding
- Thinner weights vs thicker weights heavily depend on the climate that you live in, and your personal preference of what you believe to be sufficient protection.
- Brand is entirely personal preference
- Synthetic holds up under the stress of our engine better/longer, but that doesn't mean that normal oils aren't fine for shorter periods of time.
- Fresh fluid matters far more than any brand, type, or weight.
- Race teams run cheap oil in the engines, but then they only expect to run ~50-200 miles on that oil. So if you go with anything more expensive, you are only really paying for a longer interval
In the end, you have to make your own decision.

I don't advocate the entire site, especially since there is stuff in there that doesn't apply to rotaries, but the additives page is very useful to anyone that thinks that adding something generates a benefit.

Thanks for the reply guys. And yea I don't want to start an oil debate. I was just wondering if I should stick with the synthetic or just use conventional. I know the older rotarys in the rx7 ppl say it's very bad for them. But oil has come a long way since the 90's. I called Mazda and the smucks said my engine will blow up with synthetic which I find a bit extreme lol. I don't mind if the synthetic is a bit more expensive and yea I'll still change it around 3000-4000km. But if it's better for the motor to use synthetic then I'd stick with it. I have heard ppl say it will breakdown the seals and ruin o2 sensors and the cat. I also heard it will be better for the motor. I will stick with the sane viscosity either way the 5w20. Just was wondering if anyone had the suggestion of synthetic or conventional. The brand is not the issue. And as for the oil stabilizer. He said he used Lucas oil stabilizer.

RX8Soldier I am guessing he is not putting 2 cycle oil in with his regular oil, he probably means this http://www.lucasoil.com/articlelist1...cOilStabilizer .
Jeremy just read what RIWWP said up top. If you are only going to keep the oil in the car for 3000km(or 1800 miles) then why even bother with a synthetic unless you just want to waste money.

I HATE SPEEDBUMPS!
Oh well...too late, you already did. lol
Anyway, i only follow what the manufacturer says or what the manual says. All those aftermarkets products will or will not improve performance wise. Don't get me wrong, i know there are some aftermarket products out there that can improve the life of the engine. All i'm trying to say is...i'll rather stick with oem products for my vehicles.
