CD Audio & MP3
I recall reading somewhere that the Bose Audio system plays MP3's on CD's. If it does then I'm doing something wrong when I burn the CD.
Also, I've seen a few Bose systems that can play DVD's as well - a neighbor of mine has about 60 hours of music on a single DVD in his car.
Will something like this work on the Bose system in the RX8, and if so how does the media need to be configured in the burn?

you need the mp3 CD player that Mazda offers as an option. the only way your stereo will play mp3's is if you convert them to an audio CD.
you see that little MP3 button on your console? that would be used if you had the other unit.

The "mp3 option" for the Bose involves a different in-dash player mechanism, and the kit includes a replacement dash trim piece with the "mp3" logo. I got mine as a dealer-installed upgrade which was a negotiating point when I bought the car. List price for the mp3-enabled single-disk player kit was about $400 and their installation labor would have been another $150. It's great to have a 200-song music library on one disc, but I'm not sure I would have paid $550 for that.
