Center Console Button

Center Console Button
Anyone had a problem with the center console latch release button. My popped-out of place, up on one side, and the dealer repleaced the entire center console sliding cover under warranty two months ago.
Now the button on the new cover is doing the same thing - only on the opposite side. It appears to pop out of its place on one side after the console is closed, so that one side of the button sticks up almost twice as high as the other side. You can push it back in place, but it eventually will pop back out of place.
design flaw?

Ive had that same problem. The only fix for it is to just leave the center console open (or just keep taking it back to the dealer until the warranty runs out). Thats what i do now. Yeah, i would call it an oversight on mazdas part (or maybe they knew about it and didnt want to redesign the center console).

Wow, at first I was afraid I might be alone on this as a freak occurance
But since it looks like a regular thing, and potentially affecting anyone in the 2004 model year, perhaps with numbers, we can get Mazda's attention?
Anyone have an idea on what the best way to do that (e-mail campaign, letters, phone calls)? I would imagine its been done on other quality issues.
Or just keep letting them replace it?

with mine the small plastic guides that make it slide nice have broken. they pop off and then you can not get the lid to flip open.. just slide.. I have noticed that the console lid cannot take any real weight or pressure.. Like leaning over to grab something on the passenger side floor area. this will push the lid to one side and make things break.

There is a thread somewhere about fixing the button. You take the lid off, unscrew it and take the button out. There is a spring that pushes apart two clips that keep the button down. Use a little heat (hairdryer, etc) to push the little clips back out and the button will stay down. I had to do it a couple times, but mine hasn't popped out since. It's not the best designed thing in the car.

I've not had a button malfunction, but have had the console runner replaced. Easily the weakest components in an otherwise pretty reliable vehicle.
Oh, and the condensation prone taillights. But that's about it.

Thanks Mike73
In my case the button is actually broken from one of the 2 mounting holes. I see the tabs are curved inward! I know what to do for future times the ho decides to become abnormal! Anyone know the part number for the button?
