Angry check engine light/oil light

i have had three occasions now of my check engine light coming on, two of which have also come with the oil light flashing on as well. already had the oil pan replacement done on the first flash. the dealer told me when they were updating the program this time i was down a quart and a half of oil. i have read about the ce light coming on in other posts but are any of you having the oil problems i seem to be having or am i alone on this one?

I have had mine pop on and off on a few different occasions. As long as its off, I'm not too worried about it. I regularly check the oil and if anything did go wrong, we got warranty

Mine was doing the same thing so I contacted my dealer who was well aware of the problem. Though my "three" day fix is now pushing a week.........

I talked to the service manager at a Mazda dealer and he told me that every 1,500 miles, you have to add a quart of oil to your vehicle.

Had a similar incident just now. Was getting on it (about 7k rpm) and the check engine light started to flash. After about 5 seconds, it stopped flashing and stayed off. Oil level is fine, car seems okay. Suppose I'll get the dealership to pull the code when I go in for the free oil change.

I am not looking forward to having to pay for oil on top of preium gas.

Since it costs all of $2 a quart, I don't think that's going to be much of an issue for you :p. I'm at 9k miles and I've added all of 2 quarts (if you don't include the oil change) to my car.

If you can afford the car, the gas, and the insurance, I'm sure you can afford a quart of oil every 3K miles.....

You guys need to go to the Tech forum and read up on the TSB where it will tell you about the oil pan replacement and other notices.

As for adding a quart every 1500 miles, learn to read your dipstick! It's doubtful you will need that much but checking your oil ever other fillup is not a bad habit to get into, regardless of what kind of car it is. If you just add a quart at 1500, chances are you will over fill it which is as bad as being under.

The only light that occasionally comes on is the engine coolant light. it comes on when i start the car up in the morning. and the weather is cold btw. It'll come on and go away when the engine has been running for a few minutes

My coolant low light came on for the first time tonight at start up in my work's garage. It was about 20 degrees F. Ihad never seen this light before, but it went out within seconds and I looked it up in the manual when I got home. I was way short of the L mark. Added about 1 quart of antifreeze. My heater has always been lackluster so I hope this improves heater performance. I'll find out tomorrow.
