Child Booster seat

Child Booster seat
I was looking at some pics in a gallery at
http://www.rx-8.com/gallery3.html
The picture in question is 2nd column, 2nd row. (I tried to post the pic directly here, but it didn't work.
This appears to be a child booster seat behind the driver's seat. It appears to be made specifically for this car - note the body color accent and rotor cue in the lower right hand corner. I wonder if this will be available as an option for those owners who need them (I have a 3 yr old)? I know of several other manufacturers that offer built in boosters in specific models.
I know this is a pic from an older protoype, but this would act as extra leverage in helping get one in my garage.

I hear what your saying. We've got a three and a one. The Coupe look with Sedan access is one the appealing aspects of this car. Our one year old is just big enough to fit into a 'regular' car seat so we bought matching ones for the Suburban. But integrated ones would be that much better.

The only reason I am allowed to get one is because I showed my wife a picture of the Evolv with the child seat. (Ya I'm wiped, but is all about the love baby!) I also have a one year old and would love it if there was a matching child seat (but not necessary).

Man I didn't realise thats what that was!!!!! This is gonna be real good leverage to get this puppy in the garage as earlier stated!! I also have a 3 yr. old and I could get her to climb in the seat and say something cute to get the wife to go for the car!! You gotta be slick sometimes...

Man that's harsh! You must not have kids.
If you have kids and they are under 40lb they need a seat. It's the law!

No I have older kids. I was being facetious and absurd by suggesting such options on a sports sedan. All cars are now required to come with secure safety restraint anchor points in the rear. The RX-8, being a 4-door, is no exception.

I'm scared of the price of that option...
I'm sure the custom RX-8 child safety seat will cost at least twice as much as a regular child safety seat. Whatever it is, I will get one. Maybe two by they time they finally release this car.
I think it would be smart for Mazda to offer this option. I bet many of the people possibly in the market for one of these are is a similar situation as me. I could never consider a two seater because of my family. I will not even consider a standard coupe anymore. I had a nice BMW 3-Series coupe when our son was born but I found myself never driving it. I would walk out of the house and have to choose between a better driving car that was a hassle to get my child into or a not nearly as fun Corolla that had four doors. I chose the Corolla almost every time. I sold the BMW because it wasn't getting used and now I'm in the market for a sports sedan. A friend turned me on to the RX-8 having a usable back seat and if the suicide doors make it easy to get a kid in the back, I plan on jumping on board.

There's always the liability factor when a company starts producing items out of their area of expertise. Most car companies won't touch car seat manufacturing with a ten-foot pole. Let Fisher-Price take the heat if one fails in an accident. Automakers are only required to provide solid tether restraints and seatbelts. If they do include an integrated car seat I'll be very surprised.

Good point, I can see the liability problem. Can you imagine the flack Mazda would get after we saw the child seat fail on NBC Dateline Insurance Safety Institute crash test? Not good!
