Clear Corners... let's have a discussion. lol

Ok first off, I was just back from the photo/gallery section and almost every single picture of an 8 with stock corners there are ATLEAST a few people screaming at the person to get clear corners... why? Secondly, I DONT have clear corners on my Yellow 8, and here are my reasons.

1. I like how the front and rear turn signals blink the same color when i set my alarm and lock/unlock the car.. lol i know sounds lame, but it's true! it just wouldnt look right with an off amber bulb blinking to a dark yellow from the rear.

2. The clear corners just doesnt seem to 'mesh' very well with the US Stock front bumper.. seems like the clear corners were made for the MS front end. ( which it is). I am very **** about having the lines match up correctly and what not lol. is it a JDM trend that's 'in' ? lol

-I just want to know how many 8 owners have the clear corners and why they they like them and what bulbs are they using?

-Also, I want to know how many 8 owners that DONT have clear corners at the moment and are they thinking about getting some? or keeping it stock?

who knows.. maybe someone might convince me to get them or maybe my taste will change lol... but i know it's 'your car you do what you want with it..' argument will be brought up.

so some thoughts.. what made you guys keep or buy new corners?

I have a red 8, and the orange corners don't flow well with the red. here, compare for yourself:

sorry, they are cell phone shots...

it's a matching thing. And IIRC, and please correct me if I'm wrong, but the US was the only country that required amber corners.

It is a personal taste thing, but most people find that on all of the colors, the amber corners just clash way too much.

I have clear corners on my TiGrey along with super white bulbs for the front parking lights and like them a lot. Sure, they might be trendy but it does improve the overall looks of the car. I could agree with you that the OEM side marker look ok on the VR's and maybe LY as well. But honestly how many people are looking at your car to seet if all your lights match when you lock your car? just my .02

Clears on my silver. Obvious reason.
Stealth bulbs which show up as normal amber when lit up.

IMO the clears look better on every color.

Allow me to be the second to say I like the amber.

Clears are a definite must for some colors (green, blue), but I like my BB with orange markers. It's hard to describe, but it gives that little bit extra "splash", like an accent. It's the same reason I'm not a fan of de-badging, it's a little too monochromatic.

like i said, i have one of those odd quirks lol. I remember on my honda i would turn it into a christmas decor with green/red/yellow bulbs and made a video of it for the holidays... But like you said, it is a trendy thing, and maybe every 8 i've seen here has the clear corners and it discourages me to join the band wagon...

i think im just looking for the 'right' bulbs for the clear corners.. i want that dark yellow/amber look and not the faded look, but cant find it anywhere..

I agree, I like my BB with the orange, looks cool with it. But honestly when I look at RX8s I dont really notice those little tiny lights. Actually I think only RX8 owners notice them, 99% of the people on the street won't even pay attention to them..

that's why we're enthusiasts lol. But you'd be suprised other car geeks will notice.. I had one gentleman ask me if mine was an older generation because all the other 8's he's seen has the clear markers.. i told him well the 04 models came in amber but the 05+ has the clear ones.. and he just looked at me like

I have a winning blue but no clear corners. I like the contrast between the amber and the blue. oh yeah, and its 70$ for them. Not worth the money to me!

I think the clears look cheap and I have seen many that do not fit well. It's like anything else though, some people just want something to mod for the sake of modding and it's a cheap mod. The clear amber debate started in the Civics, worked up to the Maxima's and now it lives on in the RX8 community. My ambers will stay.

I HATE clear corners.

When I first started coming here and reading this place, I, naturally, didn't know what clear corners were. All I saw was ENDLESS people INSISTING that you HAD to get clear corners. Like it was the most important thing in the world, like it was such a glorious improvement. Then I finally saw what they were, and I couldn't BELIEVE that everyone was making such a big fuss over such a big nothing. As time went on, I found the amount of pure 5th-grade-level peer-pressurism about the clear corners to be so annoying that I'm now permanently stigmatized against them. Even if I thought that, for certain color 8's, the clear corners look better, I wouldn't care, it just REEKS of me-too-ism.

The whole point of customizing a car (or anything else) is to make an individualized statement. But with the clear corners it clearly has become a case of "If you want to be an individual, you have to wear the uniform!"

you've seen clear sidemarkers on the rx-8 that do not fit well??? they should fit perfect on a stock bumper. must've been something wrong. lol

i have clear corners and my front turn signals flash white. so no amber. works for me.

i just personally dislike the amber color, so i went about getting rid of it.

The marker itself fits well, but the molding of the clear corner and the amber are totally different. if you follow the texture of the clear corner and run it towards the stock bumper, it's not smoothe.... i know, i notice weird things like that lol.

CCs match the clear headlights. Works well with all colors. But, yeah, it really doesn't matter. This reminds me; I need to get windshield wipers...

ahh yes. just had to say something because 9krpmrx8 said they did not fit well.

it is a design rather than a fitment issue.

I have a BB. Aside from the red reflectors and brake lights, everything on the car is black, clear, silver or something along the lines of a B&W nature, except for the amber corners and turn signal bulbs. Here's my take on it:...

-The dark & bright contrast of the silvers and black look outstanding! The orange doesn't give it any more contrast or splash, it just looks messy and out of place. The clear corners not only get rid of that but also add to the B&W theme.
-The amber turn signals against the silver/chrome housings look like an egg yolk of a sunny side up egg. May taste good but doesn't look it. And worse since the housings of the turn signals are chrome, the amber bulbs reflect out at certain angles and make it more noticeable than just a tiny bulb. It sticks out like a sore thumb. No such problem with stealth bulbs.
-The same "egg yolk" effect applies to having the normal bulbs in clear corners. Stealth bulbs take care of that.

So in short I have stealth turn signal bulbs and clear corners with stealth bulbs in those as well. It looks a million times better.

^^ cant decide if the background makes the car look even sexxier or the car made the background appear to be even more desirable lol

so stealth bulbs looks like a good way go.

I've got clear corners with stealth bulbs on my VR. My opinion is that the clear corners look much better than the ambers. Call me crazy but I also think that they look better offset from the profile rather than flush like the ambers. It's all about personal preferance. I'm very happy with my decision. I'll post some good pics later after I clay bar my car today !

For me, the $70 into light covers is just not money well spent. I also agree with Steakboy that the clears dont look "fitting" on a VR. I have a MS nose on order and it should be here this week. If the yellows dont "match up" (and I cant immagine why they wouldnt) maybe I will change my mind, but I dont think so.

I also felt that undercurrent of weird "you gotta have 'em" trendyness in this forum for the clears. I never understood that. Perhaps I am rebelling? It wouldn't be the first time. And it saves me $70.

i think it depends on the color.

yellow, obv the yellow marker is fine... yellow on white is pretty bad.. the white makes it look so much better
