I don't think that is what people are saying. I know that I like the 8 either way but with the clear there is a improvement IMO. I believe that is what others are saying. Like putting a MS kit on you car. Not that you didn't like the 8 its just might look that much better to you. :D

I dunno Titanium. Hideous is a strong word. If someone thinks they are hideous and they were the only choice would the car then be hideous enough to be turned off by the ambers?

Exactly how I feel. I went to clears on my LY and it looks better to me but not a big difference. The Shinkas, Blue, Black & Green: a huge difference.

DOT requires the front side markers to have an amber reflector & light on "original and replacement lamps, reflective devices, and associated equipment". That's why the clears are grey-marketed. State laws vary and some are pretty fuzzy on the topic so check your state's rules; they determine what you're allowed to drive (versus what Mazda can sell).

But their not the only choice. That's the whole point.
I haven't heard anyone here yet who installed the clear corners and then went back to ambers. For those of us who have done the mod the choice is clear(no pun intended). :D

If I hadn't seen this thread reshashed here again, I probably never would have given it much thought. I have a Velocity Red 8 and I like the amber markers just fine. I have never seen it with clear corners in person, but the pictures that I've seen lead me to believe that I would still prefer amber.

What I don't really understand is why this is such an issue with some people. I like blondes over brunettes. Should I should start a thread stating that I think that people who like brunettes over blondes are stupid, blind, etc...Not really my style.

Where is the best/cheapest place to get them from? I have a white 8, so I desperately need to get some clears. I know some people have found them on eBay, but is there any better place?

I like the amber on my SS. I think white would look too plain.

www.mazdaparts.com comes with stealth bulbs too :D check with the owner if they are in stock... japanparts.com through ebay has screwed me over before and they still haven't fixed it

every ricer and their grandmother has clears on their cars, thus leading to the whole image of clears having a rice connotation in my mind, factory equiped or not. i actually dont' care for the altezza style tail lights either, but i love the rest of the car so much that it doesn't bother me.

yup. sure did. back in college when the whole lets-make-every-light-on-the-car-clear-except-the-headlights-which-will-get-black-outs phase was just beginning, i made it up to to make fun of all the people who were doing it.
not my fault people stole my phase. if i could figure out who it was, i'd sue them for copyright infringement :p

I'm undecided on clear corners. What I'd really like is to get rid of those horrible looking clear back lights, I just don't like that look at all, it reminds me of those crappy altimas that seemed to start the trend, very unpolished, unlike the rest of the car.

i might need to add those to my car for when the gf is riding in the car with me....than and strengthen the handles on the passenger side. i swear sometimes i think she's going to rip them off

actually, it was the altezza (lexus is300) that started the trend

I agree that ambers look better on Velocity Red, especially since they are flush fitting versus the clear corners that are on the market.

However, I think that virtually all the other colors except Lightning Yellow could probably benefit from the clears.

I also think it has a bit to do with the shade/hue of red for the Velocity Red cars.

The red is an orange/yellow hue red whereas the red on the Mazda 3 is a red with a blue hue/tinting

Well....come on everyone....this is certainly a matter of preference. To each is own. However, I have to admit - after just adding clears to my Nordic Green, it certainly looks better (and I've had no fewer than 6 people agree). Seems to blend the car as one....
I bought mine from Japanparts.com and had no problem whatsoever. They were/are the actual factory parts. I did remove the reflectors and think they look better than way.

Yeah, I think blondies look better in my car also. Well come to think about it at my age any girl would look good to me in my car.

As for the clear or amber, I just like looking at the inside out while I'm driving. I can't see the corners and I bought the car to please me and I am very pleased.

My girlfriend did rip the passenger handle off of my car once, lucky for her it was my old eclipse that I planning on trading for the 8. If that happend on the 8 I would have flipped. What the hell is it with women and car doors, they always slam the door and yank the handle really hard before you can unlock the door. This girl is 110lbs and she ripped the handle of my eclipse like it was taped on....well actually it might have been it was a mittsubishi.

I'm with you on the tail lights, I wish they were a bit more simple, but alas, this is one part of the car I can't change. :p

Also, some people have been getting upset over this thread, it's really not a big deal if you have them or not. It's a minor cosmetic change but I think it's amazing how much of a difference it makes in the cars overall look. Thats pretty much the point I was trying to get across.

I didn't read everything but I like the amber lens on my black 8. It stands out...but is not distracting. I also like the clear lense but for (I have not spent alot of time researching yet) $75 I don't really care enough about it.

I rather mod for power-performance, than for looks. With that said...if I found some that were cheaper (I actually wish I could get the ones Mazda put's on the 8 around the world) I might pick them up....if only, so I would not have to keep hearing people tell me "you need clear corners on that man" from the rx8club...lol :p

Remember, I did not say the ambers where better...just that I was satified with them and thought the clear lense were not worth $75 + shipping. If you have a paypal account and could send them to me...that would be great. Your blue w/clears look very nice!

But...post a close up picture so I can check them out in detail.
