Closing the trunk
Do you push the lid closed, or just kind of slam it using the inside handhold?
At first, I'd lower it nearly shut with the interior grip, then push it closed with my hand on the top of the trunk. But I started getting picky about fingerprints. (Black car, y'know.)
So now I grab the handhold and just sort of execute a quick downward pull. But I always feel like this move should be followed by a cry of "heee-YAAAA!" and I wonder if other people will think I'm mad at my car.

Yeah, like the other person said, you can use the handle and quickly remove your hand on the down-swing. Also, try putting your fingertips on the chrome-plastic Mazda logo...works great. And definitely don't put your fingers on the top of the trunk. Even if you think you're pressing the trunk lightly, the fingertips can put subtle almost imperceptible indentations in the thin trunk sheet metal.

Hahaha, a whole lot of my friends are afraid of me closing my trunk because of that handle. Most of them won't do it themselves and demand that I do it. (Nothing wrong with that!) I've never had a car that makes people take a couple steps back every time I give it a close :D

if the kids were in the trunk..., wouldn't they die of heat exhaustion? after a 15 minute trip home last summer we found our gallon of ice cream melted. thankfully it was upright and double bagged.
it's funny, but my wife's toyota matrix has a similar handle, but it's on the bottom lip insted of the inside. so there's not as much risk of amputation.

A long while back, someone on here reported that they bent the lid using the handle/rapid slam method (it's aluminum). Those little hydraulic struts put up more resistance against fast motion than slow.
Use the handle to slowly lower the lid and give the final push using the logo.
