I use the hee-ya method myself.

Usually without the sound fx though.

 

I use the handle to get it 2 inches open, and then give a gentle push to the outside to close it. It does not take much force at that point. When I had black cars, I'd use a sleeve or my wrist to close it the last inch or two.

I'm a Yee-haaaa man myself. The design of the trunk hinges provide more resistance at first, but once it's halfway down it closes itself.

Yes, the trunk of the 8 can get pretty toasty, most likely because of the muffler beneath.

Your kids in the trunk comment reminds me of a little event that happened to me many years ago. We owned a 1985 Nissan Maxima at the time and I was traveling along with my two youngsters in the back seat. After a while I noticed that it seemed unusually quiet in the car. I glanced back and the rear seat was empty! The kids had unlocked their seat belts, pulled down the pass-through, and crawled into the trunk! They said they enjoyed watching the tail lights and turn signal lights blinking inside the trunk.

Now, that was 20 years ago. Today, you could possibly go to jail for allowing that to happen.

I have an aftermarket exhaust, the trunk stays a lot cooler now. Smaller mufflers....

 

This thread is really funny....closing the trunk? :D I didn't realize there were so many permutations and combinations....how do we manage? Anybody got time to actually drive? I'd hate to think what would happen if the trunk was titanium. I open it, I close it, nuff said

I use the handle to bring it down, and then push it the rest of the way, using the heel of my wrist. There isn't much skin oil there (no fingerprints). I push on the radius of the "corner", near the center. This gives a positive feel for the latch and prevents any bowing or "denting". It's easier to get a gentle but positive close this way as opposed to the "heeyyaa!" method. Slamming is bad. m'kay?

Not such a bad topic. The trunk latch can be fussy and more than one owner has ended up with a dead battery or mysterious "alarm problems" because the trunk wasn't actually latched. "Heeeyaa!" usually doesn't lend itself to accuracy, imo

 

OK, I actually tried saying "HEE-YAAA", I think it helped. I did catch a couple of strange looks. You could always switch it up and do the monica sellas thing, more like a grunt...

Surprising to me that we have an entire thread devoted to closing the trunk - anyway....I have a VR, so I just close it with my hand on the trunk lid under the spoiler (no one can see fingerprints there!).

Better yet, merge this thread with the ones where people report that when they FOB their car locked, the lights don't flash to indicate the alarm's set ............ cause they find out they've been driving around for days with the trunk unlatched - not enough "heee-YAAAA!" I guess :D.
