Clutch making noise

The clutch on my 2004 rx8 started making an odd noise today...The noise only occurs when I press and release the clutch, and it sounds like a short squeak...Similar to an object needing WD-40...It only lasts for a split second when pressing in and releasing, but I'm not sure what could be causing the problem...The clutch was replaced recently by the previous owner, so I don't think it is burning out...Any ideas?

Never fear, Jedi is here!
It could be the clutch pedal itself is having problems. Unfortunately this is a common problem with the RX-8 where the welds on the pedal do not hold up and the pedal can actually snap.

Here's a thread with tons of useful information in the first few pages: https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-trouble-shooting-95/clutch-pedal-snap-off-8-year-warranty-recall-%7E%7E%7E-132912/

I edited my post with the link.
Also, there is another thread out there regarding a TSB (service bulletin) concerning the pedals and an extended warranty on them for those of us who had ours break.

dont worry, i get the squeaking noise too. but only when i've been driving aggressively for a period of time. i replaced it once before with the extended warranty they had, but the squeaking returned after a month. so i just stopped worrying about it, it will go away after 3-4 months.

I just made an appointment with the dealership for tomorrow...I'm hoping it's nothing...Better to be safe than sorry though...lol...My only concern is that when I checked it out, I could move it side to side very easily...Unless that's normal...I've never tried to mess with it before today :/

I read one of the posts from the link that Jedi (above) posted, and that person had the same symptoms...Their clutch ended up snapping.

There was (is?) also a TSB for the switches on the clutch pedal assembly as they could also squeak...

The dealer just called me back and said there's a recall with the clutch that wasn't taken care of on my car, so that will be fixed tomorrow (assuming that the recall is the problem).

The new clutch pedal part # apparently includes the switches so, assuming it's installed correctly, the squeak should be gone.
