clutch problems
so I have a big issues guys. Everytime I press the clutch it squeaks pretty badly and from time to time it sounds like if it pops as well. So I brought it to the dealer today and I'm waiting to see what they tell me.. I'm hoping the could just replace it under the warrenty. Anybody know what they might tell me

Yea I kno I was aware of it, but when I brought it in they tried to hit me with a "oh let's see u might need a new clutch so with that type of labor ur looking at $1300" so then I told them like wtf its my pedal!... so now they told me to hold on and they were going to check it again but I am aware that the pedal its covered by warranty

What's up kaiser, I am at the dealer and I think you are right about the recall. I'm just tripping out on how they tried to charge me for an entire clutch when I keep telling them its just my pedal that might be ready to snap

So my clutch squeaks when pushing it and I am at 102,xxx miles so warranty is out. I have yet to go to the dealership so I was wondering what are my other options to repair it?

Yea but he's out of warranty. Kaiser, do u think hell still get it replaced??? You can try getting it welded for support. I have a friend that did that and it fixed his problem. I would prefer the brackets though

Ok so I found the letter they sent out to owners for the clutch bracket replacement, but it seems its for sub-100k only and I'm at 102k. Maybe I am reading it wrong? Shall I still take it to dealer?

So I called local Mazda dealer in Kingwood and told me to bring her in. I've done business with them before in the past and they have treated me well, no complaints. I'll take her tomorrow and see what they say.
Curious, if I order the assembly from Race Roots, possible for dealer to install it or am I better off finding a local shop to do it? I don't know of any local shops in Houston that are rx-specific tho..

Last night I was driving home in my 2004 RX8 MT and the clutch assembly snapped.
The clutch pedal actually got pinned underneath the break pedal at one point... You've heard of "heel-to-toe" shifting? Well, you haven't lived until you've done some "palm-to-pedal" shifting.
Anyway, I managed to get home by sticking to 3rd gear and did what I always do when the mzdrati acts up... I logged into the RX8Club.
Kaiser... THANK YOU!
I went into the nearest dealer with that Mazda PDF you linked to, and they looked at the car (with no fee), overnighted the part, and gave me a ride home. None of this will cost me anything! I should be back in business by lunchtime tomorrow.
And with the brand new clutch assembly I'm definitely going to make it a priority to get the Race Roots brace.
For those of you who over the 100k mark, or paid out of pocket to replace your assemblies, there's a form on that form (SSP 82) that allows you to submit for a reimbursement. If I'd been at 102k and mine failed, I'd still go to the dealer and just ask them nicely to record my mileage at 99,999 since this has been a known issue. You shouldn't be penalized just because you squeaked an extra 2k miles out of yours.
Speaking of squeaking... there's another service bulletin about the RX8's squeaky clutch. Issued 10/26/2006 Bulletin No: 05-011/06 (Subject: MT - UNUSUAL NOISE WHEN CLUTCH PEDAL IS DEPRESSED).
Part Number Description Qty. Notes
D374-66-4D0A Clutch Cut Switch
Warranty Type A
Symptom Code 82
Damage Code 9B
Part Number Main Cause D374-66-4D0A
Quantity 1
Operation Number / Labor Hours: XXB435RX / 0.2 Hrs
APPLICABLE MODEL(S)/VINS
2004-2007 RX-8 with VINs lower than JM1 FE**** ** 209819 (built prior to September 25, 2006)
DESCRIPTION
Some vehicles may exhibit a squeaking noise when the clutch pedal is depressed. This noise may be the clutch
cut switch.
Customers having this concern should have their vehicle repaired using the following repair procedure.
REPAIR PROCEDURE
1. Verify customer concern.
2. Replace clutch cut switch with a revised part.
NOTE:
• Ensure clutch cut switch locks into position when installing.
3. Verify repair.
Hope that helps someone - I found in another thread and pointed it out, since my clutch had been squeaking last week... I adjusted the throwout and greased the spring and it went away, but I figured I'd repost the details on this bulletin here. I found it linked in another RX8Club thread, but sometimes it can be hard to find the answer you might be looking for... although I've been amazed by the amount of knowledge and experience everyone shares here.
It makes owning this car a lot easier and more enjoyable.
Keep it up guys!
(My mzdrati does 155... I lost my clutch - Now I don't drive)
