Coffee Cup heater

I threw a few things into the front console compartment this evening and went for a drive.
When I got to my destination I opened the compartment and reached in to grab my things.

Everything was VERY warm!

I believe that if you put a coffee mug in there it would keep your coffee hot!

I certainly would not store my cell phone in there..

My cell phone lives in there, but I certainly wouldn't carry any candy bars there!

How to make RX-8 Chocolate Chip Cookies.

1. Pour chocolate chip cookie mix into each cupholder before you go to work in the morning.

2. Close Cover.

3. Drive for 30 minutes or more.

4. Open cover for a delicious pre-work cookie treat.

Sounds like a container, some water and a couple eggs and I could have my car actually make my breakfast!

Although to be hoenst, I havent seen any extreme heat in there yet. It gets warm, but the car interior is much warmer than that from sitting in the sun for a while.

Just curious to know if your car is an automatic or a 6 speed. I have an auto with 1,000 miles on it. The center console and footwell areas get extremeley hot when the outside temperature is over 80 degrees to the point where it becomes very annoying. I also noticed that the trunk gets extremely hot as well.

Any comments and fixes?

I have the 6MT and I am bothered most by the heat coming from the area around my feet. It sometimes feels like the heater is on. The cup holders do get warm too. I completedly melted a Wendy's frosty (ice cream) in minutes.

I've found that turning on the FAN at speed 1 helps a lot. The heat from around my feet seems to go away. I now always run the fan at speed 1 (AC is not on). Maybe it's all in my head but it works for me. Using one of those insulative cup holders may help with the cup holder problem. It's tough shifting when I have to hold a frosty in my hand.

Mazda should install some type of insulation to keep the heat out of the car. Doesn't it make you wonder how all the pre-production reviewers never mentioned this? How could they miss this? Time for a conspirary theory. Hmmm they also didn't report the horsepower issue, gas mileage issue, heat, etc.

BTW: I love my RX-8 even with all these problems. I'm gonna love that free maintenance and $500 debit card too. :o)

Not Uncommon Anymore

Heat is not uncommon on any modern vehicle. With the heat generation from emission equipment, it is now ocmmon for heat ducts, engine compartments and floors to get hot. My 1995 Impala SS is impossible to ride around with the windows down and the fresh air vent on, it blows "heated" air. My wife's F250 truck runs ac even on vent. I called the dealer thnking there was a maintenance issue and it is to prevent hot air blowing through the ducts.

Don't count those chickens just yet.
Mazda Canada has not admitted anything yet, and have not yet changed the info on the website.

That's a riot! Only question: Do you grease the cupholders before adding the cookie dough?

I had to laugh when I heard the same thing. :p

What I'm wondering is how long will it be, before someone will actually try this stunt? It may actually work.

I think someone that wants to use the Mazda "buyback" attempt this, to see if it will actually work. The dealer will be surprised with that new brownie air freshener smell.

I can picture the salesman now, selling this used car as a genuine family car. A fun sporty drive for Dad & Mom, and an EZ-Bake oven for lil' Suzie. :D
