Depends on your basis.

Again, depends on your basis....

Thanks for the opinions.
Yes, if your basis is in reality it will be difficult to understand how an RX-8 will ever be anything but a horrible investment. Please, name me a single car in the last 30 years that is a good investment as a collector.

Easy. The Enzo or F40.

The RX-8 shouldn't be considered an investment unless you like money losing investments, but I can see a situation developing for a particular model akin to how the 1993 LE Miata or Sunburst Yellow is being treated as. You never know though, and it'll be a lot of years before it happens and chances are just as good you'll have a model that everyone avoids as have one that is more desirable than the rest.

Cars aren't an investment. They're an expense. Cars that appreciate are the exception.

The MSRP of the F40 was around 400k with with reports of some buyers paying over a million. A clean low mileage (under 5k) example can be had today for around 500k. So, your investment of 400k+ at best made you $200k or so (if you find a sucker to pay you 600k+) over the course of about 20 years. In other words, it's an AWFUL investment. The Enzo might sell for well over the original MSRP now, but you also had to be invited by Ferrari to buy one in the first place. So, some average guy looking to make some money couldn't have bought one if he wanted to.

Nope, and the Delorean is an example of one of those cars that many people thought was a surefire collector and good investment.

Well, actually the RX-8 was given to him by Mazda. But he does drive it and even praised the car. I'm very sure if you do a quick search, you can easily find that info on this forum

Let's rephrase the question. Given the same milage........and same relative purchase time.....which would have a better resale value. In your ever so humble opinions!

Since the models you're talking about are little more than option packages with no real performance benefits probably a regular old RX-8 without a lot of options. Options usually depreciate faster than the whole of the car.

I would argue that the GenIV supra would have been your best bet, not so much an investment, but after alot of miles on the car you could still sell it for what you paid.
