Considering RX-8 or Altima

Hey guys i was considering a rx-8 over a year ago and i am again...

the deals on rx-8's are amazing i see a lot with under 15k miles for under $20,000
so i am heavily considering one again

i also went to the Nissan dealer and they are giving me an amazing deal as well. They have a Brand new White on Black 2008 Altima 2.5s (which is basically bare bones but still has push start and some other small features) for $16,800

How do you guys feel about these deals?

offer 16,800 to the dealership with the 8.. tell them its that or you are going elsewhere for an altima... chances are at the end of the year due to inventory, the offer will be accepted..

Two points: first, yeah, this is absolutely the BEST time of year to buy a car. Showrooms are traditionally empty as everyone's too busy buying Xmas presents and no one has money for a new set of wheels. You can go into almost any dealership and name your price; they'll be grateful for the fact you walked thru the door.

Secondly yes, you're comparin' apples and oranges. A rotary-engined sports car vs. a practical sedan. Think about what's really important to you and what you really need right now - fun-to-drive or good mileage?

I'd go with the Altima. Because the RX-8 sucks.

It looks like you have an SUV already, so there's no need to bore yourself to death with another 100% practical car. Get the 8 and start enjoying life a little!

Interior

I just bought mine at a Nissan dealership so I had a chance to sit in a bunch of cars while waiting a billion hours for paperwork. I owned a Sentra SE-R Spec-v which has the 2.5 engine (QR) and it has ALOT of problems. Even the new ones...pre-cat failure, butterfly screws getting sucked up, piston rings...not for me.

The interior of the RX-8 is superior to the Altima as well. That is all.

Wtf, get yourself an Altima. If you even have to weigh the pros and cons of getting a rx8 compared to a sedan, you do not really care about the rx8. I mean i can see Rx8 vs evo vs z vs s2000 vs mustang but comon... vs a sedan, thats not a question. Get yourself a sedan. You obviously do not care about the car and just need a ride.

I agree 100%. I saw them when they first came out in 04 but was a poor college student. Told myself after test driving one for ***** and giggles (even though I knew I couldnt afford it), that was the car I was getting the day I could afford it. The only thing I considered before purchasing was when the new Z came out, as I was a fan of the 240sx so thought I would take the Z for a spin.

my final decision is obvious, as I am here. 8 > Z

Altima is not all reliable. Just search Nissan Altima recalls. Also though this may not effect 2008, just look at the recent news about the 2.5 liter.
----------------

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Nissan is recalling 686,500 Altima and Sentra passenger cars to fix problems with a sensor that could lead to engine stalling.

Nissan Motor Co. spokeswoman Jeannine Ginivan said Monday there have been no reports of crashes or injuries tied to the issue. More than 650,000 of the recalled vehicles are in the United States, with the remainder in Mexico and Canada.

The Japanese automaker said in a Nov. 16 letter to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration that the recall affects Altima and Sentra vehicles from the 2002 and 2005-2006 model years equipped with a 2.5 liter engine.

Nissan said the crankshaft position sensor could overheat, causing an interruption in the sensor's signal. Under the condition, the engine could stop running without warning while the car is being driven at low speeds.

Dealers will reprogram the electronic control module to address the problem. Nissan plans to begin notifying owners on Dec. 10. Owners can contact Nissan at (800) 647-7261 with questions about the recall.

The 2 door Altima isnt bad imo... at least the exterior. The interior regardless of what "level" you're picking up is fairly dull however (then again, some people view the rx-8's interior as a bit out there).

I know just about everyone has said this before but it really depends on what you're looking for in a car. I'd sooner compare trucks vs. SUVs than this.
