Considering RX-8 or Altima
#32
I have driven a few cars but not the latest Altima 2.5s. But I DO know that they don't come 6-Speed with clutch.
Get the RX-8 manual if you're the type who doesn't like falling asleep behind the wheel and Fat-person seats.
If you're too large for sport car seats just get a Maxima.
If you want milage for gas money, just get a Mazda 3 with 2.0L engine. I got 35MPG on highway.

The CVT trans is REALLY smooth in the new altimas, but damn theyre both 2 completely different vehicles.
OP, answer these questions for me.........
1) What will this car be used for and how much?
2) Do u WANT an RX8 or just want a cool looking cheap car?
3) What kind of engine does an RX8 have? Because if you dont know then youre really looking at the wrong car.....

Altima is not all reliable. Just search Nissan Altima recalls. Also though this may not effect 2008, just look at the recent news about the 2.5 liter.
----------------
WASHINGTON (AP) -- Nissan is recalling 686,500 Altima and Sentra passenger cars to fix problems with a sensor that could lead to engine stalling.
Nissan Motor Co. spokeswoman Jeannine Ginivan said Monday there have been no reports of crashes or injuries tied to the issue. More than 650,000 of the recalled vehicles are in the United States, with the remainder in Mexico and Canada.
The Japanese automaker said in a Nov. 16 letter to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration that the recall affects Altima and Sentra vehicles from the 2002 and 2005-2006 model years equipped with a 2.5 liter engine.
Nissan said the crankshaft position sensor could overheat, causing an interruption in the sensor's signal. Under the condition, the engine could stop running without warning while the car is being driven at low speeds.
Dealers will reprogram the electronic control module to address the problem. Nissan plans to begin notifying owners on Dec. 10. Owners can contact Nissan at (800) 647-7261 with questions about the recall.

I test drove a 3.5 six speed that was fully loaded. Great car, quit a bit faster in a straight line but it does not compare with the RX-8 in terms of the driving experience.

Nissan’s two-door delivers a driving experience that makes a sporting driver long for a Ford Mustang GT or Honda Civic Si.
its a g35 knockoff. which is a luxury version of the 350z. which is the rx8s true competitor.

RX-8 vs Altima?
I don't understand how these two cars ended up on the same shopping list.
I'm not trying to insult you, (OP) but if you are considering both cars, I suspect you don't understand how different FWD cars and RWD cars are from each other. (I'm sure you understand the basics, but the driving experience will be worlds appart.)
Because of this, I think you would be safer in the FWD, brand new car. (Altima)
That being said, I can't think of any FWD car I would take over the RX-8.

IF you get an Altima, get the 3.5L. I have both, and I love the 8, but the 3.5L Altima will give the 8 a run for it's money speed wise. The 8 handles better (obviously). The Altima is much better on gas.
As far as the 2.5L, the recall information is 100% correct. My racing team (Team V-Locity) started out as a Spec V team, and they all had HUGE problems with the QR motor (2.5L). I know people on their 3rd or 4th engine (like the 8), but Nissan treats their people like **** and gives them a hard time with the replacements. ****, the QR motor has been known to CATCH FIRE or shut off in traffic. The motor's design is set up to dsestroy itself, and for 2008, they just retuned it to get a few more horses out of it, but it's all the same hardware.
I refused to let my girlfriend get one to drive our kids around in. I made her get the 3.5L and she loves it.

Since you asked.... The Altima is for you. It's in your heart and that's the type of guy you are.
Over the long run you will love it.
A man never has to pose the question Altima vs RX8..
Face it! Your just not that type of personality.
All you'll do is buy one and then became another cry baby on the forum.

Hey guys i was considering a rx-8 over a year ago and i am again...
the deals on rx-8's are amazing i see a lot with under 15k miles for under $20,000
so i am heavily considering one again
i also went to the Nissan dealer and they are giving me an amazing deal as well. They have a Brand new White on Black 2008 Altima 2.5s (which is basically bare bones but still has push start and some other small features) for $16,800
How do you guys feel about these deals?

The payment, on the other hand is what you can afford.
