conversion from auto to manual..????
how much would it cost and what parts are needed to convert my auto tranny to manual.
i am happy with the auto but to get the most out of the renesis a manual tranny is a must.
you're probably wondering why i didnt get the manual in the first place but i had a good deal on this auto i coulndt let it go.

Yup, seriously trade-in for a manual. It's the easiest deal because it will cost a bundle to get the transmission conversion, and then the 4 port versus the 6 port engine.
I'm going to do the trade soon because time has come.

Agree with the above posters. If the only difference were the actual transmission, and you could do the change yourself it might be worth trying to go from an auto to a manual, but you also have different ports on the engine and a different ECU to deal with. Not worth the effort.

is it just me, or are some peeps here just raging MAD? i read about some wanting to tear out their dashes to install factory navs. and, now wanting to change an at to an mt?!!
did they know there is a BROCHURE to look at to select options B4 signing the check- or did they just blindfold themselves, spin around 10 times, and point to whichever 8 was facing their direction on the lot and say, "yep, uh huh- that's the ONE i'm getting!"
LOL

It's you.
It is perfectly reasonable to buy a car and then want to change out one of the MOST MAJORIST PARTS of the car to make it just like another car THAT YOU COULD HAVE BOUGHT AT THE SAME DEALER!!!

Or it could be that the person buying the car initially needed/wanted an automatic and that whatever that reason has changed now.
I know people who'd buy automatics when they had a lot of rush hour traffic driving. If you suddenly find yourself at a new job with no traffic on the way to or from work, suddenly a manual is a much nicer proposition. There could be a variety of reasons someone might buy a car and after time need something other than what they originally bought.
Just so happens in this case there's not much the poster can do about it other than trade the car in for a manual.

My first car was a 5spd b2200, second car 84 rx7 auto, 3rd car 84 rx7 5spd, 4th car 325i auto, 5th car, 325is 5spd, 6th car 540i auto, 7th car rx8 6spd...
See a pattern?
But you see, every time i realized i had to get rid of the car, not change the tranny inside of it.
I'll never learn, my next car will prolly be auto (e60 m5 7spd smg III counts as auto right? )

ok..
thanks for all the replies but the truth is that when i got the car (it has a salvage title but no ploblems or rattles so fas whatsoever) i only paid 12000 for it. its a deal i couldnt pass. now i know how to drive manual thats why i want to get a manual but since my car has a salvage title i cant trade my car in for another. i am so happy with the auto but it would be so much fun with the manual. thanks any way. any one interested in trade you 8 for my 8 and some cash? lol.
why do people have to be so sarcastic when they dont know the the whole situation.

No offence intended. All fun and games. Trade your AT for a MT. Bye!

(for the humor impaired = kidding )
You know, if we were not on opposite sides of the country I would make you a serious (and hopefully, helpful) offer to buy your car for my wife for a fair price around $12,000. She has no interested in manual at all, but likes the body style. Then you could use your cash as a down-payment on a new/used manual.
I can't imagine there's anything else to do in your situtation, but I wouldn't criticize your having jumped at a great deal on a cool car.

It would be a little faster with the 5spd or 6spd, so it's not totally useless. Somehow you'd have to fool the ecu into thinking the 4AT is still there. Changing the ecu to the 5spd's would be cost prohibitive. The CAN bus won't recognize it, from what I understand. All in all a supercharger costs less and would give better performance. Hell, the hit you'd take on trade would be significantly less than the swap.
