Cooling off the car in the garage
Anyone here run an external fan to cool off their RX-8 after parking it inside the garage? I'm trying to figure out where to point the fan for maximum effectiveness. Seems to me the way to do it is to set up an airflow to go beneath the undertray to draw the heat out from under the engine, going past the cat and out the side of the car. My goal here is to reduce heat soak in the cabin and to get some of the heat out of the garage instead of letting it all cook in there over night.

I do this. I have since I had the 8 and continue doing it with the GTO. I had to do something. My one car garage here in Orlando isn't vented, the one in Chicago is two-car and has A/C so it's not a concern there.
I put a high velocity pedestal fan in the front of the garage positioned to blow into the front of the car. On super hot days I pop the hood a little and let the heat rise allowing the fan to push it out the garage door.
Works pretty well and in about an hour or so the temp drops considerably.

On a really hot day, my cabin is still uncomfortably toasty the next morning. Reason being the tremendous amount of heat this car gives off is trapped inside the garage, cooking the car and the cabin, stinking up the trash in the garage, giving my pet iguana a heat stroke, etc etc.
I have never had a problem with other normal cars. But the RX-8 is like a lump of hot coal when you park it.

Sounds like a plan with the fan. But it only blows ambient air around. Which in your case may be cooler than the car.
I think in my case they are about equal. J/K
I have a side door on the garage. I open it and close the roll-up to about 6" above the drive. All I can do is let the fan run out it's 10 minute cycle. I shut it (garage door) when the sun sets and the temp goes down. Constant air circulation, light breeze. The car usually doesn't go anywhere until the next morning.
I got into her the other afternoon and the temp on the dash was already 109.
It's been in the high 80's and low 90's at 5:00am when I leave for work. Not much warm up time, matter of fact the fans came on as I pulled out of the garage this morning.
I have thought about putting A/C in the garage, and it's seeming more and more like a good idea.

i actually plan on buying one of those $300 - 400 portable air conditioners. then drilling a round hole in the side of the garage for the vent. They have climate control and can also dehumidify.
What I don't know, is how effective it would be with a red hot car sitting in the same room.

^^ I'm sorry, this is insane, your temperature there. How is it your tires arent melting to the sidewalk? YIKES!
I leave the door open until the car cools off. A few hours, then I close it. Love it in the winter though, heated garage for free

I just run the garage A/C. The car is almost cool enough to touch by the morning.
Actually, the garage A/C does a good job of cooling, well, the garage. Not so much the car.
If the garage temp is down to 80°F (outside temp is 110°F or so) and I pull the '8 in after a drive, the temp in the garage spikes to 100°F+ almost immediately.
Of course, big, dense chunks of the car are 220°F+ (even 260°F+) when you turn it off...

I run a pedestal fan-sometimes actually prop it up a little so that it leans over the engine and it makes a huge difference in terms of cooling the engine/hoses/other components down-typically can touch the tower brace within a few minutes without burning my hand. I think it would otherwise take quite a bit longer.
To me the repeated exposue to extreme heat can't be a good thing.
Edit: I also rarely run the AC and only when at highway speeds when there's good air flowing over the rad.
