UK A couple of General Questions

Hi,

I'm looking at buying an Rx8 (192) approx 55/06 plate with about 12-15k miles. I just have a couple of questions:

( I'm aware of the high fuel/tax costs; this is fine )

- For servicing and repairs - could you for example just take an RX8 to a local garage or do they need to be taken to a Mazda garage (because of the rotary engine). Do the majority of garages know how to repair/M.O.T/Service this type of car?

- What are the time periods between services and if possible what is the average cost of service?

- Would a 55/06 plate with about 15k miles be a reliable car to buy - as I am not able to buy new.

- Is there anything that is likely to go wrong with an RX8 of this age, and are the parts cheap/expensive to replace? (I've heard of spark plugs requirements etc)

- For this reg/miles, what would be a fair price; I am thinking of between 8-9k, as this is what I have found through research.

Note: Please answers from people in UK (due to prices etc)

Thanks in advance for any answers.

For some reason I don't understand some of this post but I will answer what I do know. You can take it to a garage for services that don't deal with the engine directly, finding a rotary shop or taking it to the dealer would be your best bet for the actual engine service itself, which I can only think of maybe a rebuild? I'm unsure what your talking about 55/06?

He's talking about UK prices...they don't use the dollar there!

As for your answers....

- For servicing and repairs - could you for example just take an RX8 to a local garage or do they need to be taken to a Mazda garage (because of the rotary engine). Do the majority of garages know how to repair/M.O.T/Service this type of car?If it's something like idling or misfires, or even weird electrical problems, a regular mechanic would work. If you can't start your car or something like that....dealer.

- What are the time periods between services and if possible what is the average cost of service? There isn't too much different here. 3k miles/3 months for the oil, etc etc...as for prices, the items like spark pugs/coils aren't going to be cheap...and if you go to a dealer, it's going to be really expensive. Best bet is to buy it yourself and do the work.

- Would a 55/06 plate with about 15k miles be a reliable car to buy - as I am not able to buy new. That wounds like a reliable purchase. These cars don't have any serious "IF YOU BUY THIS YEAR/MILEAGE, THIS WILL GO WRONG". It's just the usual stuff with cars. Some break here and there.

- Is there anything that is likely to go wrong with an RX8 of this age, and are the parts cheap/expensive to replace? (I've heard of spark plugs requirements etc)
If you have an engine failure, at least in North America, there is an 8 year 100k mile engine core warranty. That's the only thing that should really run you expensive...if you're out of warranty and the engine grenades on you.

- For this reg/miles, what would be a fair price; I am thinking of between 8-9k, as this is what I have found through research. No clue....lol

re

Thanks for your advice.

If it helps; a 55 plate simply means the second half of 2005; it work like this:

05: first 6 months of 2005
55: second 6 months of 2005 etc
